I have a '91 explorer and I am going to put a new bearing in the spindle. Anyone know of a way to get the bearing out other than with a slide hammer? Thanks.

Don't know... I used a slide hammer and 30 secs later the bearing was in my hand... Around here many auto parts stores offer free loaner tools so that is what I did.

its a press fit.
I hand the spindle to the guy at Carquest (his name is Chris here) and he takes it int he back for about 8 seconds, comes back with new bearing pressed in

Yep, what 410 said, I just took it to a shop and he pressed one out and a new one in for $10 took him all of 5 mins.

Thanks guys, but unfortunately a shop is not an option for me. Any technique or method for the home mechanic?

long flathead, then a hammer and socket to press in the new one?

Small 3 prong puller of some sort or slide hammer.

Dont ***** up the machined parts of the spindle!
