What is the highest spl # you have achieved. (with your x) All numbers must be legal and not "at the port" Just curious who is really the loudest.

143.7

2 Kicker Comp VR 12's 1 Crossfire 1000D 1Farad Cap

Chris

how do you measure this? could a local shop do it or do i buy something?

you usually measure at car show/competition and you have to use a SPL meter, very expensive some good shops will have one that they will let you use

148.9 w/one audiobahn ultra excursion 12 and audiobahn 275hc amp and 1 farad cap. go to bass competitions, your can get it tested "officially" and see what you got, dont get an spl meter from radio shack (they only go up to 126db).

im really anctious to see what mine is... kicker 02s12l7 solo baric's, kx1200.1 (puts out 1420 watts) 2 1 farad caps... monster ported box...

152.4!!!!!!!!!!!! all i have is 4 JL W3 V2 12 inch subs in a ported box...

I am looking for 150's with my 4 twelves once I get a new amp....

-only got 136 off my rockford 15 I had... it was a SQish box though...

loudest "street" explorer in the world

Last year, I had the 6th loudest "street" vehicle in the world at the db Drag World Finals. That was in the Street 3-4 class for db Drag.

Currently, I am 6th in the world in certified SPL in the Street B class for db drag.

you can check out my competitor stats at: http://www.termpro.com/asp/competitorstats.asp?Competitor_ID=24888&Season=2003

The scores in db drag are much lower than most other organizations because the mics are constantly calibrated. This season, DB Drag has switched to a pressure sensor instead of a mic. This new pressure sensor is about 6-10 dB lower than last years mics.

Explorers are loud!!!

Andrew

Awsome numbers man!

I too compete in DB drag I compete in Street 1,2

Congrats!

Can anyone beat this guy?

hey quadcam, you're runnning 8000w and its on a stock alt? is it just me or does your car like almost shut down with that.....

great score but man, how do you drive with that!

i don't listen to it that loud!!

when I am competing, and drop the hammer....the voltage drops to about 10 volts!! because of the rules in my class, I can only have one additonal battery (no larger than the one under the hood) and the engine must be off!!!

for daily listening, I have my sub level control set to about -10 dB. At full volume with the sub level at -10 dB, the voltage fluctauates some but never drops below 12Volts.

Great thread!

If any of you read my introduction in the newbie forum you know i used to own car audio stores.

We were known as an spl store for the budget minded. When you only have 500 bucks to spend and you want a system that impresses, you really have to be careful what you pick.

We chose to do away with the 2 or more subs and design a single sub spl system. First we chose an amp. The Ample A-226x. Rated @ 130 rms x2 and 520 max output.

Then we had to find a sub and design a custom box to be as efficient as possible to make a lot of noise on a little power. The catch was ... it HAD to hit every note, not just be tuned to certain frequencies for spl purposes. The system must be able to go from Bach to Beastie to Bass-master.

What we ended up doing was finding a highly efficient aluminum driver by GS Designs. GS D class 12 incher.
Then we sat down with our calculators and three 4 x 8 sheets of MDF and 8 tubes of liquid nails... determined to build the box as many times as it took to get it perfect.

What we ended up with was a Stage 3 Tuned Port enclosure. The port alone houses 1.8 cu. ft. of airspace and runs 28 inches deep inside the box. It took 12 hours from the time the box was built, 'till the time it was finished tuning. We kept shortening the port, changing the width, changing the box size, untill we found the sweet spot.

What we ended up with was a $500.00 system that had a 260w rms amp, an alumninum 12, and a custom box that nailed 145.4 on it's maiden voyage at a local Circut City show with IASCA. (In a '92 ford explorer XLT with leather interior).

Keep in mind that the box held steady within 3 db from the bottom of the spectrum to the top on the rta. You could listen to anything from Phil Collins to Juvy and it hit everything full and clean. That's the difference, all SPL boxes are tuned for one note and sound terrible on some music. The 28 inch port allowed us to detune the rear soundwave 180 degree's out of phase from the front wave..... NO CANCELLATION! (notice below which way the port is facing).

I still have the original Stage 3 Tuned Port box in my X today. I just ran outside and snatched a pic, here ya go:

edit to add: We did not build SPL boxes, just loud one's.

That's the difference, all other SPL boxes are tuned for one note and sound terrible on some music.

sorry man i have to disagree w/ this statement... my system hit 152.4 and i think that is farily good... also i can put any cd in the player and it will sound awsome... my system is tuned to not loose cone control at 30 hrz... my system sounds great on any kind of music.. although your 1 sub my sound awsome w/ all the different kinds of music do not claim all other systems sound terrible... thank you very much...

Quadcam next time you are in tampa, PM me, I wanna come see you ploder, it sounds like it would be totally badass. :)

do you ever go to the DB Drag events hosted by Divine Sounds? there are some very serious db draggers in the tampa/st. pete area.

No, I always hear ads about them and always wanted to go, but never got around to it. I'm sure I would have a blast though... watching other people destroy VCs that is... :)
