SPL BRAGGING RIGHTS

sorry man i have to disagree w/ this statement... my system hit 152.4 and i think that is farily good... also i can put any cd in the player and it will sound awsome... my system is tuned to not loose cone control at 30 hrz... my system sounds great on any kind of music.. although your 1 sub my sound awsome w/ all the different kinds of music do not claim all other systems sound terrible... thank you very much...

You don't have an spl system. You have a loud system.

Spl cars are set up to hit one note. PERIOD. I don't care if you can play charlie daniels in it at 150db, it isn't an spl system. Just loud. Visit an IASCA DB Drag sometime.

People thinking they have an spl system is common, though. Hitting 150 doesn't make it an spl system. There are SQ cars out there doing that in shows all the time.

We didn't build SPL cars, we built LOUD one's. Big difference.

That's the difference, all SPL boxes are tuned for one note and sound terrible on some music.
I didn't say we built SPL boxes.

i must step in here

onelasttry,

I feel I must interject here. When it comes to "street" or "stock" SPL systems, I have yet to come across a one-note wonder, such as in the super-street and extreme classes. You just can't get the boxes big enough to have a single-note peak. Sometimes the smaller boxes work better for street, too. ;)

Most competive street competitors are peaking in the 45-55 Hz range. So, I fail to see the difference between an SPL setup and a loud setup. I know that I can go from burping to playing "SQ" music to hip-hop to bass mechanic by only making EQ changesand level adjustments from my headunit. According to you, I have a loud system (true.), but not an SPL system. other people may say it is an SPL system just because of the sheer power.

so, what is the difference between being "LOUD" and having a high "Sound Pressure Level?"...........it sounds like semantics to me.

so you have that system and in order to stay within the rules of the class you don't have a new alternator... which makes sense for competition, but why not buy one so that you can hit the club scene with earplugs in and blow peoples minds that little bit more? then just remove it for competition

QuadCam, IMO there are no SPL street cars. Just loud one's. The true SPL cars burp one note, hit 180, and go home. Such as the mtx van. They have never went longer than 2 seconds ever. the only time they tried, they blew 3 subs.

Sweet :D

the X is LOUD!

The van is SPL! :D

that van was nice. does anyone go the usac finals in kc besides me

WTF! that looked like it was f'n loud! man, i would've loved to have been in that garage!

hey quad, i havent competed and the only cars that i have seen werent even close to true spl systems, so i was wondering if your engine is off, do you use a generator? or is that common or what? would love to get some tips on competing this summer......

new rule in db drag

this 2003 season, db drag implemented a new rule into the street classes. That rule is that the vehicle must compete with the engine off. They did this because several issues were raised during the off-season about factory-option alternators. To kill any issues regarding upgraded, optional, or rewound alternators, DB DRAG choose to make all street vehicles compete with the engine off.

This does hurt max performance, but it does level the playing field for competitors.

Other organizations have different rules.

I have competed in many organizations inlcuding, USAC, MECA, IASCA, SLAP, and dB DRAG. On a world level, dB DRAG has the stiffest competion and is the pinnacle of the SPL comp world. To win a DB Drag world championship is the highest achievement you can earn in the SPL world. Of all the other oragnizaions, I think I like MECA's format the best. MECA gives the average competitor with modest power a place to compete and be competitive.

i dont want to sound like an ass or make anyone think im bragging but the roof on my explorer will vibrate just as much with 1 12" sub and about 1100 watts

it sounds like you people need to dynamat your ceilings

dynamat won't stop the vibrating! It just makes the panel heavier!

My whole roof is dymanatted; it didn't help SPL one bit. It just sounds "dead" when you hit the roof.

you can sometimes use that cement spray stuff, but that gets expensive and i've never tried it on a roof

and are your subs facing up or backwards

My best is a 153.4

I have 2 15" memphis high powers
Memphis 1000D amp
770 cc amp lightning audio battery
and a bunch of other crap

subs facing up

Onelasttry: I'm not really sure where it is that you get your info from and say that "true" spl cars are "one note wonders" but thats really off. Many spl cars can be played on a variety of music. I've seen several spl cars hit in the low to mid 160s that are daily drivers and are used for the types of music that people like to listen to. Not just test tones.. Also, where'd you read that the true spl cars go to the show and burp their system and walk away at 180db? In true dB drag, Team BS has the highest certified SPL numbers at 177.7. Nobody has ever even gotten close to 180dB.

I disagree. but..... that was months ago. get over it.
your going to let me have my opinion if you want yours. i'm good here, myself.... and done.

My best is 149.9 with 2 15's and 1500 watts.

I then added another 1500 watts but blew a sub and amp before I could measure it again.
