1998 Ford Explorer sport
I used to live in miami and the roads were smooth and i didn't really compain about the ride even though i still noticed some roads all the little bumps i feel and if there are a lot of pot holes that have been covered and i go over them and its a slight turn the car almost has no traction and will start to swerve and this is going about 20mph. Well anyways i moved to college and the roads are worse at college and its really fustrating to me because i just got 4 new shocks and michelin tires 4 months ago. I'll admit that the ride is better but also almost not noticable at times, but its not like any F-150 or expidition ride. Is there anything that i can do to soften the ride at all so i'm not being thrown around the seat as much as i am now (it feels like im offroading on city streets, ha).

Boy do i FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!

What's your tire pressure at and what shocks did you get?

tire pressure is fine and i got monroe sensatrac shocks.

A '98 sport. Tire pressure is right. Shocks are good. Hokie is right- suck it up. That's how Explorer supposed to ride. Sorry to say. :(

Well i've only had my explorer for about a week, and i don't think it rides very rough, sure the Comfort is nothing compared to the Ride of my 95' T-bird (it rides like a dream), but it can't be any worse then the 90 F-150 that i used to drive

oh and something else to add,

the length of the wheelbase is also a factor, the longer the wheelbase the smoother the ride, the shorter the wheelbase the rougher

The 4 door Explorers ride like cars. The 2 doors ride like a real truck is supposed too!

Thats its way of tellin' you its pissed that its a streeter... me and Adry get along fine b/c we have the understanding that she likes mud and I like to get her muddy... Match made in heaven my friend ;)

I would check out the tire pressure again. I was having a really rough ride myself after new tires and shocks.

I lowered the pressure by just a few pounds, and the difference was dramatic.

I have also noticed that due to the shorter wheelbase of the Sports, there is a noticeable understeer when hard cornering. Before I spent mad $$$ for suspension upgrades, I started monkeying with different tire pressures. Right now I'm running 1.5 pounds more in the rear, and the push is gone.

i just put sensatracs on my X and the comfort is much better compared to the edelbrocks that i took off. i also had kyb's on too and they were too rough. i have pirelli at's and sensatracs so this is about as good as my ride is gonna get and i'm very pleased with it.

You guy's bought a truck. Why want one that rides like a car? Get too smooth a ride and you'll be really leaning///// in the corners\\\\\. you want lllll not///or\\\. I don't get it..............

LOL

I like my stiff ride. Keeps nice and straight |||||(as he^^ said) in corners and feels very stable. 4-door leaf packs stiffen it up too. I have Edlebrock shocks which make it even stiffer. I have to be careful on back roads. If I go to fast it'll start hopping and i'll be all over in no time.

to hell with a stiff ride. i needed comfort and thats it. cornering, thats what i paid explorer express $300 to take care of when i bought front and rear swaybars. i have the swaybars for handling and nice soft shocks for those morning cups of coffee when you just can't find the lid...theres no need with soft shocks.

Hey relax up there. I am well aware of the fact that I have a truck and how trucks drive.

Believe me, driving on the street here in Puerto Rico is about the same as off-roading elsewhere. I bought the edelbrocks to improve my handling. Try driving in rush hour traffic while off-roading....that's what it's like here.

But the mechanic in me has to try and tweak everything. Hence the air pressure changes. And it does work.

Lucky you didn't get KYB Monomax's like I did. I'm waiting on my Yokohama AVID S/T's to come in to soften up my ride. Maybe help with the gas milage a little too.

ooh:( , i know what you feel like with the kyb's. i had them on and took them off after 3 mos. i couldn't stand the rough ride anymore. they are a real heavy duty shock and willm probably last forever, but just too rough.
