What kind of mileage are you getting? I get about 15-17 in my truck highway or city. We have a member that is getting 30+ mpg in his Expo. Run a search for "my quest for 30". You will find aldive's thread. Happy posting!

I average about 13, get as much as 19 on the highway if I keep it to 70 or less. Is your mpg worse than it was before?
Manual says change plugs at 100k, that's bull. Change 'em out at 50 to 60k.
Bad O2 sensor will hurt mileage but there should be a check engine light if it is.
Make sure the diffs and t-case are full. Synthetic is better.
Lastly, where I live we get the crappy oxygenated gas in the summer, so my mileage always drops some when I have to run that. I run 89 in the summer, it helps a little. Where you live it might be different.
Get a front end alignment too, that can make a difference.

What kind of mileage are you getting? I average 14.5 and have NEVER seen more than 17 even with 100% highway miles. I do have 4:10 gears though so my mileage might be slightly less than some. I change my filters religiously and changing plugs had no noticeable effect on mileage. My truck just now has 80k on it.

thanks everybody!

wow ,thanks for all of the input ,sorry i dont get to check back more often but i am getting around 12 to 13 mpg in town and 16 to 17 hwy. ill check out all your excellent feed back , and thanks again

Is your truck 4wd? The 4wd Explorers always get worse gas mileage than the 2wd models. The front axles are always engaged.

I have an 03 ST 4x4.

I get 14-15 city, 19-20 highway. Using Mobile One EP Full Synthetic

I keep tire pressure OK

yeah, I get about 14-16 most of the time....aldive gets better, but hes done a LOT of work to his trac, and I'm sure drives a bit more conservativley...
best thing you can do, is check you're fluids and tired regularly, and slow the "F" down...

I just put my first two full tanks of gas into my "new" 2001 ST, and in combined driving have gotten 18.7 (about 80% highway, 20% surface streets).

When I got it, it had half a tank in it, so just for giggles, I filled it up and did the math and the previous owner was getting 16 mpg in the same mix of driving (we both have the same commute)

I know that he has a more aggressive driving style, but did not expect it to make THAT much difference, especially now that the temps have dropped into the 30's and 40's...

Am going to add a K&N and am looking into an air dam for hopefully another boost.

man I wish I knew farenheit....thats chincese to all of us candian boys...and girls...
it's around the 0 C mark here

LoL! Sounds like you're 5 degrees cooler (that's celsius for you up there).

I get about 22 MPG Hwy. around 17-19 City. If I'm careful. But when I'm having fun its around 15. Down here we got 6 Gas Stations: 1 Conoco, 1 Chevron, 1 Inland, 1 BP, 1 Citgo, 1 Texaco, and 1 Shell. Whenever I fill up at the Inland (which has the same price as the Conoco) I get better mileage and response. Sometimes Cheap gas sucks. Just depends where you get it from.

in canada...I get bad milage on shell gas, usually pretty good on petro canada...I hear husky has good gas to, but haven't tried it...they also have a 94 octane on pump which is rare for canada...

Guess I will add my $0.02. My mom has a 2001 S/T with 105000 miles on it, automatic. Runs perfect, doesn't burn a drop. It has a lot of options on it including 4.10 gears.

When she originally got it, she drove it a mix of city and highway and got 12-14mpg. She has a fairly heavy foot, and that's where I get mine!

I have since started running Mobil 1 in the engine and added a HeartThrob cat-back. She drives the same. Average 18-20mpg... however, it has gone down a bit due to the winter blend of fuel and lower temps outside.

All I get is 15 to 16 M.P.G. no matter what kind or driving I do.
