sport with full length console?

i recently bought an 00 sport (4.0 auto) with the short center console. i dont like it (nothing to rest my gas leg on) and would like some more storage.

did the 2door explorers come with the full length centers and if i find one can i just bolt it in?

I don't think the Sports ever did. You can take a full length out of a 4 door and put it in if your Sport isn't a manual. And even if it is you could still modify it to fit.

Some of the 2 Door sport models did come with a full length console. You can swap it in.

The 2 door Sport XLT's had the full length consoles but man they are hard to find. I'd like to have one but haven't been able to locate one in the tan color for mine.

Mine came stock with a full length console....they aren't that hard to find. The swap would probably be easy if you have all the mounting brackets. Also...I don't know about the wiring....but there is a harness that has rear blower controls that may or may not be present.

yeah i have a friend with an 01 and hers has a full length one.....its not an xlt sport either.

I'm pretty sure that all 2nd gen Sports are xlt's....so to speak. The only other 2 door was the first gen Eddie's.

Actually there were some rare 1st gen XLTs that weren't Sports that were two door.

I will also say yes to the console answer..a full size fits..I put one in my Sport with a manual trans. I had to customize the shifter area and mounted the shift boot on top of the console surrounding the shifter.

When I said they're hard to find, I was talking about finding them in the salvage yards to be able to get one to install, at least in the Alabama area. If you know of one in the Prairie tan color I would sure like to get some info on it.

my 98 Sport has the full length console. I know that I have seen quite a few for sale on Ebay. Not sure of the colors, but I know they are there. Hope this helps... good luck with your search and upgrade..

You have the full length Kevin.

Yea, Sports have them. The controls probably won't work on the back unless you do the wiring. But get the brackets and everything and you should be good to bolt it in.

Okay. It had me confused I dont think I have ever seen a Sport with any thing different than mine and I could not imagine it beeing any fuller.

I also have the full lenth console, and BTW, my second gen 2000 Sport is an Eddie Bauer model. Yep, you read it right, it was a special order from my Ford dealer, and has all the EB toys!

i posted this thread and totally forgot about it.

where the shifter would go on a 5spd, is there supposed to be a bracket there? and how does it mount to the dash? ill lose the ashtray and the lighter right?
