I have a set of American Racing Outlaw II wheels....they are about ayear old and they hve started to develop spots on them that look like water or salt spots, funny thing is i clean them so often i dont understand how they got there..also i tried EVERYTHING to get the spots off including steam and i cant...any ideas or anyone heard of this?

ive heard of it cuz i got the same prob on new rims. but i dont know how to get rid of them so im subscribing here to see what we can do about it.

You might try rubbing it with some vineger, but make sure you flush it off good. Follow it up with a good polish.

vinegar? really? ill try it right now even though its 10 oclock at night....but vinegar better then steam?...hey redrig i go to gettysburg college...ive never seen your truck before, do you live in the borough or where?...i think ive seen a green explorer around with a lift and bigger tires...we should get together cause im sure you know some good off road spots there!

Are they polished, clear coated? If they're clear coated, it sounds like the clearcoat is going bad. You'll never get rid of it. We had that happen to an F-150 we had. It was a Ford defect, so we kept getting new ones each time the went bad:p . But if they're still under warrenty, I'd take them back.

Bad clearcoat looks like theres a cloudy liquid(ha ha) right under neath it. If I had a pic of it, I'd show you but I don't, and I don't think my old rims have any. Good luck getting it off :)

Just looked it up, and yep they're clearcoated. I'd say that would be the problem. If they're still under warrenty, not sure what American Racing's is, I'd take them back to where you got them, it would even hurt to take them back anyways.

hey man, thanks a lot for doin my work for me!...yeh vinegar didnt work...yeh the wheels are only a year old, not even but to be honest with you i think the tire place that sold me them had them sittin around for a while cause he didnt even have the right inserts to put in the wheels when he put them on, the inserts on the back say "pacer" on then and i doubt they are the right ones...im gonna give them a call and complain, they owe me anyways! i have ot as them about warranty becuase it looks like s---...tHANKS! I thought they were polished to be honest with you but i guess not!

If they don't cover it, and they look like crap, you could always sandblast them and paint them any color, Just please don't paint them that cheesy fake chrome;)

yeh...im gonna try to get to that today or sometime this week...ill let you know how that goes...but it isnt worth sandblasting because its not that bad looking...

redrig, did you ever figure out how to clean yours?

yeh...i just spoke to American Racing and their warranty doesnt cover anything besides peeling on the clear coat...so i might go to the tire place and see what they have to say for themselves...i think they may have had these wheels for a while partialyl because the inserts dont go with the wheels i dont think...the inserts on the back say "pacer" on them and i dont know what that has to do with american racing outlaw II wheels...but i guess im stuck with the leopard spots nonetheless..:(

I don't see how they can't cover that, but nontheless, go back to the retailer and get their opinion. I would think that would be consider the clearcoat peeling. But I'm not up on paint stuff. Good Luck though!

info on polishing wheels

try this stuff it works great if there pretty dirty use buffing wheel then this stuff it will make them like new thanks www.capecodpolish.com

k thanks

try using paint stripper, scrape off the damaged clear coat, and then sand the effected parts, if your all outa options.

hmmmmm...yeh i might give that a shot too, thanks

I think sandblasting would be a better option. Using the acid to strip the paint might damage the aluminum of the wheel and ruin the entire wheel. But if they look like crap, you really have nothing to loose!!

we will have to see if they get any worse, because as of right now its not worth doing anything....for now....thanks
