I have a 2000 explorer 2 wd v6 SOHC. It starts poorly then sputters until above 15 mph. I have to jam on the gas to make it stop But it returns if idling. I replaced the spark plugs, fuel filter, and Mass air flow sensor ( it was running lean before I replaced the MAF). I can't figure it out. Any help would be great. Thank you

Probably the idle air controller aka IAC

Sputtering still.

Thank you. I tried cleaning the IAC, but that did not work so I replaced it and it still is idling like crazy. also takes a few tries to start. I can slam on the gas but it sputters for a few seconds then it runs fine when I get up to speed. Please help. I am trying to avoid mechanic labor costs at this point

Clear DTCs then read

You posted that your engine was running lean before replacing the MAF sensor. Have you cleared the codes and reread them? If so, please post them.

I suggest that you check the fuel pressure: Ford Explorer Ranger Fuel pressure test procedure

There were codes for 4,5,6 missing and running lean. I tried changing my ingnition coil pack but that made it worse. I tracted my wires to insure firing order was correct. I am at a loss. also when I depress my fuel release valve no fuel comes out. I am in a tight spot, thank you for your help.

Another thing to check is the tube from the air filter to the intake. Make sure there are no holes in it. It happened to me and there was a huge hole from the top pulley rubbing a hole in the tube so a ton of air was getting in there after the sensor.

fix the valve or low fuel pressure

How many miles since the fuel filter has been replaced? See Why change fuel filter?

Has the vehicle been sitting for a year or more and is there rust in the fuel tank?

If no fuel fuel sprays out when depressing the fuel release valve then there is inadequate fuel pressure or the valve is clogged. The valve may be clogged. Unscrew the core with a valve stem tool. I doubt the engine would run at all if the fuel pressure were so low that no fuel is released from a functional valve.

Crankshaft position sensor was the problem paired with an old IAC. The sensor had gotten wet from a leaking radiator hose that leaked when hot. starts right up and runs great. Thank you for all the help. Cheers
