Greetings Everyone,

Now that I've driven my 95 XLT for a bit, there are a couple of things I've noticed.

1. Driver seat squeaks like nobody's business...it gets really embarrassing at times. :( If I change its position a bit, it stops for a while, and then it starts squeaking again. It's not a metal squeak, but more like a plastic-flexing squeak. The seat also rocks a bit when accelerating and braking, and that's when the squeaks are the worst. Please help!

2. I read up a bit on a clunk that was being discussed a while ago. And I'm not sure if this clunk classifies as the same one. The one I have is when I've just eased up on acceleration, after taking off, and the truck is rolling on at around the same speed, that's when this clunk comes in. As if a higher gear engaged, rather loudly. Always occurs when I'm driving slowly in bylanes, and I feel it's when the tranny goes from 2 to 3? It occurs at around 20-30KPH, and just after I've left off the gas pedal for the truck to roll on a bit. If I drive on full steam, the clunk never occurs. Is this normal, if it is, I'm cool.

3. There is some steering wheel play. I can roll the wheel, side-to-side, a bit, about 5-10 degrees, not more. Anything to be concerned about?

Thanks!

Drivers seat on my 96 XLT squeaks like crazy, sometimes it drowns out the squeak that comes from my rear suspension. I can't locate the exact place either one squeaks.

1. seats. When I started to make love on the back seat my front seat stopped sqeaking.

2. tranny. Are you sure it is the tranny ? Klunking car and steering wheel play may be a sign of a worn balljoints or generally front suspension issue. If you are certain that the noise come from the tranny the car should be tested as there is in my opinion no way to fix it yourself. Basic question? are you sure it is the tranny ?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've fixed the squeaky seats problem. It was a bit embarrassing...but I'm a heavy guy, if I sit on the seat and adjust it, then it squeaks. If I'm off it, adjust it, and then plonk on, the squeaks are gone. And now I've got it in a spot where it's dead quiet, so I'm not changing it one bit. :D

The tranny clunk comes in exactly at 30kph, not more, not less. I'm pretty sure it's the tranny, if I race past the 30kph, it's beautiful. If I have the gas pedal depressed on my way slow way upto 40kph, it's beautiful. But if I leave the pedal around 29, let it roll a bit, KLUNK at 30kph. I'm not bothered by it really, but it's a klunk alright, and I've modified my driving to avoid the 30kph roll. :)

No other clunking, squeaking of any kind whatsoever. The truck is quiet mostly, yip it rattles a bit when going over bumps, but that's to be expected I guess. The steering does turn a bit though at standstill, don't know what to make of that.

Everything else is solid. This vehicle seriously impresses me, it's 11 years old, but it runs great, and feels tight.

Thanks again! This forum is truly superb!
