Does it sputter and/or jerk before it stalls? ...or just suddenly "smoothly" dies? You "acquired" it meaning it was sitting for a while unmaintained?
Joney's link has good probable things to check regarding smoke/oil leak ...start with easy first.... possibly a worn leaking PCV seal .... this sits/ mounts on top of the drivers side valve cover... near the back portion of engine. (I'm assuming you have the 4.0 ohv version...not the 4.0 sohc - that's what the majority of the XLS versions came with... rock solid reliable engine by the way. Should see the large letters "EFI" embossed on black plastic intake manifold from drivers side)

Not sure what this means " At sports and spiders" but I would do fuel pressure test if no CEL on. .... original fuel filter still in vehicle?
Can't help you with bolt size on water pump / fan....
