I am confused on my front gears. I have been told by a couple of members that my gears are standard on my '95 (because 2nd gens are standard). BUT, I have been asked by 2 diff gear vendors if that is correct. They seem to think that it is a Reverse rotation. They want me to make sure I have the standard not the reverse, as I do as well.

I have been shopping online for new gears, and it seems they are saying gears will fit for years 91-95. That would be a reverse rotation, (since 1st gens are reverse). Mine is a 2nd gen, but it is also a PITA! It is a cross breed in a couple of ways, having some 1st gen characters in it still.

I can not afford to be wrong on this. If I tell the gear vendors I have standard and they ship me standard, and they turn out to be the wrong ones, I am SOL!

Anyone with absolute knowledge of the rotation of a 95 EX 4.0 front vac cad gears that can share would be greatly appreciated.

The 95-01 front gears are not the same as 94 down, exactly. The rotation I'm not sure of. Ask the vender here about that and give him a shot at a price.

94 and 95 are different, that mention of 91-95 for a specific part, that's a misprint.

Anyway, I suggest that you buy an entire front diff and housing, they are not easy to set up, and they rarely go bad. Which gears are you wanting, hunt around and see what may be available? I bet you are after 4.56's or so yes? For those you do have to swap gears, just find a good builder, it takes different tools than a rear diff.

I have a pro shop installing the gears (4.56) No way would I attempt the install.
No need for a new diff, I will have the old one rebuilt with a master kit.

Ericauto is one of the vendors I am speaking of that questioned the rotation.
His books showed the rotation to be reverse on the 95, But it did not make sense to him either, and wanted a clarification as well.

More than 1 supplier has printed the 91 to 95 fitting. I have looked extensively for months now. But nobody I have talked to will give a deffinitive answer, leaving it up to me to figure this out.

I am fairly certain that the gears of the 95 Explorer are exactly the same as all 95-01 front gears, and Sport Tracs, Sports to 2003 or so. The diff inside is the same, you just have the odd disconnect system on the right. But the diff. gears should be identical in all 2nd gen's.

Ask a Ford dealer for the stock front gears for a 95 versus 1998, sometimes that helps. If they say the gears are the same, then you know it. If they say there is a different part number, then it's still an unknown(Ford changes part numbers a lot even with identical parts for different models etc).

Thanks for the help Don, I truly appreciate it. I am also pretty sure it is the standard rotation as well. I was hoping for someone to come out and say, "Yes, it most definitely is a standard rotation because, ......."

I just find it strange that the gears of the 95 EX is coming up a question for suppliers and dealers.

You could look at the location of the pinion compared to the ring gear, it's on the left side looking forward at it. Where is it for the 91-94 trucks, I know those are larger housings and I don't have any pictures of those.

Hey, Gregg be sure that you get the Dana 35 IFS master kit. There is one for jeep 35's and then all the front 35's Checkout Randy's Ring and Pinion unless you are ordering from the shop that is doing the install. Dana 35 Rebuild Kits

The link goes to the install kits but the axle is listed as the AMC Model 35.
