So I've finally figured where to mount my amps. Yesterday I went to the salvage yard and bought a spare rear interior quarter panel for $25 bucks. I used my tap and dye set to set some threads in the sheet metal. I'm using threaded rod to hold the sandwich (so to speak) of amp racks together. Then I'll cut up the panel I bought yesterday and re-work it to fit over the amps. I didn't get very far last night, I only had about an hours worth a daylight. I'm also debating if I want to house my crossovers here or not.

Ok... AMP RACK NIGHT 2

This is how the amp will sit. One of my crossovers will sit below it.

Looking good man, seeing stuff like this makes me want to do something like that, (im not the best wood worker) but I do have some experience, and I think if I really took the time and tried, i could get something kinda nice, i just always want it asap so i rush lol

but im deff. gonna keep watchin this, what kind of audio do you have in (or going in) there, and what headunit?

Head Unit: a Kenwood DNX9140 Nav Unit
Subs: (4) Memphis shallow-mount 10s
Amps: (2) Boston Acoustics GT-24
Components: Rainbow Germanium 6.5s

Here is a link to the build pics for my box

looking good beast!!

Why sandwich the amps between two pieces of wood rather than just have a single piece they bolt onto? Looks like simply bolting them to the back piece and then making a vent where the storage pocket in the panel is would be easier.

Hopefully those are some cool running amps, with that sandwich and warm amps, you might have to add some kind of push/pull fan system to keep air moving.

The reason I have sandwiched them rather than put them onto a single piece is that there really isn't enough room. While the amps aren't all that powerful, they are fairly large. As far as the fan goes, I have a 13" crossflow fan that will be going in :P

But, I worked on my box, amp rack, and head unit updates all day today.

After:

Uploaded this custom start-up screen to my Kenwood DNX9140. I can't take all the credit for the image as I only made half of it...meaning I added the Ford emblem...then uploaded it.

Ok, worked on it some more tonight.

The question here is, what do I want to do with the area between the subs. Do I want dark gray carpet (like the interior panels) with the top to match the other carpet?

Right now I'm at a stopping point. I can't go any further until i have some materials. I need to order some ABS plastic and some liquid plastic to finish up that trim panel.

Oh..I see now, it's a double rack. It looked like you were going to just mount both amps in between the boards.

Any reason for not putting one amp/crossover behind the right rear panel?

Looks good, I'd say match the other carpet, it would be a smooth stealth install.

Well no GOOD reason. I think I really just liked the idea that randomly popped in my head

Also, in regards to the carpet, I guess my question is this:

That "panel" that is going around the subs is removable and will remain removable. It will be carpeted to match the other carpet. However, I want opinions on what color the baffle should be (the area between the subs below that panel)

Also, currently the hole in that "panel" around the subs is shaped like this:

Should I keep it like that, or make it like this:

nice, looking good. and i say keep that area between the subs the way u have it

So for a little of an update:

I haven't done much to my vehicle due to the winter weather. It warmed up and I had a hair so I decided to carpet the trim piece, mounted the box, and figured out a way to mount the trim piece.

The trim piece sticks up a little further than I'd like, but there isn't much I can do about it. I can't quite figure out what I want to do with the baffle. It will either be painted (not sure what color) or carpeted.

Speakers look pretty cool.

Personally, I am not into big systems, but it does look good.

Keep it up!

That is some pretty slick work.
If I didn't use my cargo area for tools, I would consider redoing a more stealthy looking box. But, I have had to make all of my designs high up (Pretty much level with the top of the back seat, simply because, I have needed to keep my tools and things I carry from time to time away from the sub face.
I just get so scared that a drill or screwdriver would go right through the cone.

Ok, so the box is now totally complete. All I have left is to finish the trim panel and all will be good. I decided to paint the top of the baffle flat black.

Painted it? It looks real nice with the black surrounding.
