Usually when a starter seems slow, its the brushes, or the contact of the brushes to the commutator. Sometimes all the brushes need are cleaning along with cleaning the comm. ring is all it takes to bring it back to cranking real good, but of course that requiers disassembly.

Before I'd take the starter apart though, I'd first check the wiring to the starter and the ground terminal on the battery.
And I would check the voltage on the battery when it's under load, while cranking for example. Just to make sure the problem really is with the starter.

Battery needs to read 12.6 with the service charge removed
If it is the starter and it still starts
Then you have some time
I would rebuild
Here is a link to the website I used to rebuild my alternator and starter

hot sometimes increases the draw the starter puts on the battery I would replace it

Like others said, Very easy to rebuild a starter. The brushes and solenoid usually wear out, part is pretty standard for most Fords. Under $25 for both. I found the parts on ebay. Once you clean it up and replace that it should be good for another 15 years. Probably 30-45 min to rebuild.
