Starter Problems - Search Didn't Help

I turn the key and i get one crank and then the clicking sound from the solenoid. This happened last year (14 months ago) and it was a bad starter. My battery and solenoid are both very new, 2 months old, and have full volts (+12.5). Should i get a new starter or ***** the place out that replaced mine last november?

I would pull the starter and take it to a parts store that can test it. They might have put in a cheapie starter.

I replaced both of mine when they died with ones from Autozone. They are cheapies I know, but have a lifetime replacement.

I crawled under there and whacked it with a hammer a few times and tried to crank it again, now it won't turn over but I still get that stupid clicking sound from the solenoid.

it is definatly the starter just get a quality one and put it in

If its definitely the starter then I am going to call the shop and demand a new one. Starters don't go out in 15,000 miles. If its not the starter then I am hung out to dry. I have no other ideas about what it could be.

The only other thing it could be (besides the batterie) is the starter relay. It's mounted just behind the batterie (not behind it...beside it I guess on the side wall) You can run a jumper from the batterie to test it though...the procedure is on the site somewhere. That's probably not the cause but if on some weird chance the starter is good, that's where I would look next...i replaced mine for i think 12 dollars so not a big loss.

Just called the dealership I bought my starter from 16 months ago, they only have a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty on their parts, so I got screwed by them.

In November I replaced my battery, solenoid, and positive battery cable so what else could it be? The radio and interior lights have full juice flowing to them but when I turn the key the lights go pretty dim. Is it the starter or cables?

try jumping it from another car first the battery could be defective. the engine didn't seize did it?

Since the lights are dimming, check your ground cables and their connections first (since they seem to be the only thing you haven't replaced) and then try jump starting it.
It could be a bad battery. (not uncommon for batteries to be bad right out of the box or go bad quickly) You could still be showing 12.5 volts, but if it has a dead cell it won't have enough amps to crank the truck.

I tried jumping it from another car, still got the same thing, one turn of the engine then a rapid succession of clicks from the starter. I didn't replace the neg cable because it wasn't corroded like the pos one was.

try running a jumper cable from the neg batt terminal to the frame and give it a shot if that does not work than i would just get a new starter

The battery was the culprit. Just got a new battery and the truck fired right up. Wal-Mart tested it and said the cold crank amps were below 50. You've gotta love 3 year warranties on batteries!

I am going to hit Autozone or one of those places and have the alternator checked for free. Since the battery ran out of juice in 3 months I think the alternator may not be charging the battery up.

you dont have a sears. the diehard is a very good conventional battery
