ok guys... so i have a 93 xlt right... and it won't start... we've determined that its the solenoid on the starter, cause when you beat it with a crowbar and get someone to try and turn it over... it does more than when your not [lol] so yah... i'm having a hell of a time trying to get the starter off the truck... cause you need to remove it to change the solenoid... are tere any tricks to it? what do i have to remove to get to it? i managed to get one bolt off... but i cannot get the upper mounting bracket to release... i'm having trouble just getting the wrench up in there...

so right know i know that its a 1/2" bolt thats a pain in the arse to get off... can anyone help me?

any help appreciated guys - cheers :uk:

Get a good selection of extensions, can't recall having trouble with mine. You may consider replacing the starter and being done with it. Was buddy beating it right above the decal that says " DO NOT HIT"?

yup lol... smashing the sensitive case with a crowbar.... we replaced the whole thing. good tip it works now... however now the starter won't disengage! HELP!

any help appreciated guys - cheers :uk:

If you beat the starter and it works means the starter motor is bad not the solenoid. When you beat on an electric motor it sometimes seats the brushes good enough to work temporarily so it's a goos thing you replaced the whole starter

When you hooked up your new starter you didn't by chance get your big battery cable twisted around where it's touching the S post on the solenoid?
I had that happen once, and the starter wouldn't kick out once it started.
Just a thought.

that may very well of happened actually... but we got the starter replaced [finally - was like trying to draw blood from stone] but its still doing the same thing... when you turn it on from the ignition... if you put a snap no starter over the serminals of the solenoid, and turn the power of 'click' it everything works fine... i am now thinking it has something to do with the ignition... and after reading the diagrams in the haynes books... there are only two things left tha could be wrong with it [if i go with the ignition theory] 1. the 'clutch tripple function switch' and now we have had clutch troubles befroe, and it the clutch itself needs replacing... or the actually ignition itself... so if anyone out there has had a similar or even knows about this problem PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!
