starting problem

Hey,
I have been having a weird problem iwht my 1992 X. WHen cold, it is pretty hard to start, usually takes 3 cranks where: the first I have to hold the gas down and crank for 10 secs, the second I pump the pedal and it stumbles, then the third I don't touch the pedal and it starts. When it starts, it runs rough for a few seconds and may backfire once or twice.

It has compounded now that, only on a certain stretch of road now, when I do about 70, the engine runs at about 1500 rpm, and they almost seem stuck there, I have to give a fair bit of gas to accelerate, or even make the rpm move, and when it does it backfires and stumbles for the first few seconds.

Any ideas?

First check your injectors, then your exahst system.

I would also pull codes, sometimes these things leave clues in the computer. And check the fuel pressure to see what fuel delivery is doing.

It could be as simple as the fuel filter..
