Stealth Box Construction and Installation - PICS!

Mine mounts to the outside of the box as a necessity, the eXcelon is DEEP!! There is about 1/4" of space between the back of the woofer basket and the rear MDF peice, which is about 1/4" away from the sheetmetal. It also allows me to remove the woofer and experiment with polyfill levels while the system is in place. Yours is more secure, however.

That kicker grille is pretty hot - I just need to check if it will allow enough room for the eXcelon's excursion - this thing moves.

Dude......

V8: I like those Kicker grills.......
And they also serve a purpose! Keepin' $hit from your sub!

i don't understand y you would downgrade from rf 10's to a single kenwood 10...

the Kicker grill is sweet. It's made out of steel, too, I believe. I say go for it. It's probably the most solid and best looking grill you'll find.

Guys, I live in Vermont (one of 2 Vermonters on the board, not including one Vermont college student) and I'm still a Masshole after living there 4 years! :D I make somewhat frequent trips to Stoughton, Mass, where I used to live and my mom still does. I've wheeled once with Nick26 (oh the stories...they're not even finished yet...) who lives around Dartmouth. A couple years ago I went out with a girl who lives in Amesbury; we were around there and the Hamptons pretty often. We really need a New England meeting (I hope CBoug76 is reading this!) so we can all get to know each other! How bout you all come up to VT this weekend and help me move? ;)

Did you do any sound deadoning/vibration control? I know when I had a real sub tucked in there I had mad vibrations all over the truck from it...

There were many reasons, the first being space. I carry too much in my Mountaineer, I needed the cargo room. Almost every day I'd pull out the box (unstrap it, unwire it) and have to move it to my room. When the box was out - no bass. It was also a real hassle.

Also, security. It would have been very easy for someone to smash a window and run with the box/woofers. A little harder now

The Rockfords were very good woofers, and sounded awesome. But - it didn't fit my purpose. They bumped harder, but that's not my scene. I want SQ.

Yes, and yes. My vibration control consists of polyfill batting (about 1/2" thick) surrounding the outside of the subwoofer box. I tried it with and without, and it makes a noticeable difference.

Earlier this year, I put some Home Depot A/C duct insulation on the inside of the truck. I thought I could duplicate the results of Dynamat for much less. It has an R value of 3, a 1/8" foam backing and an aluminum front. However I'm not convinced that the insulation did anything. No doubt it will help with heat, and some road noise, but not vibration dampening as it has almost no mass. It was an experiment - if I had to do it over again I would have done it right and used FatMat.

Currently if I bump the eXcelon hard - the distortion from vibration gets quite annoying. Inside the truck isn't that bad, but outside it sounds aweful. I may work on the problem, but it's not that big an issue for me since like I said above, I'm not looking to be heard a block away, I just want crisp, deep low bass.

No ****!! :D She was class of '02! Hillary Dearborn. :p What's your name, I can ask her!

V8BoatBuilder, what kind of rear cargo mat do you have in the back? Looks very functional.

It's a Ford OEM liner, it's flexible plastic and Ford claims it will hold 8 gallons of spilled liquid. I really like it, it's saved the carpet numerous times. The edges fold down easy if you're carrying large loads. I purchased it on ebay for about $40 - worth every penny.

V8 - did you ever put a grille on the subs?

Have you thought about something like a JL W7 grille?

Would you be willing to post or email the plans for the box ? and some good directions for making it and the install ?

bttt: still would like that info, about to try this in mine !
