Hey guys

I just realized in about 3 weeks I am gonna have a lot of time off and I think I might just build a stealthbox, or 2, for my x. This way it would be near impossible to jack my stuff, and would look real nice.

I have a couple simple questions about this, about construction and installation and stuff like that. Basically if you have ever done this, known anyone to do this, or anything of the like, please help.

1) Building one for the storage compartment of the trunk won't be too hard, but I want to know how hard it is to get all that trim out of the way to get the thing in there. I would have to strip the trunk, how much work are we talking?

2) Now comes the hard part, building one for the left side, where the jack and all that is. The thing can't fit inside there, but part of the box can and the rest can rest about 3-4 inches out from the panel, basically on the wheel curve. I want to know if anyone has ever attempted this before. QL seems to sell one of these, but its 200 bucks...which I am not willing to pay.

3) How could I secure that box should I build it, would it be save to drill 2 screws up from the outside of the wheel curve to the inside of the car which would go into the box? The other box will be inside the trim and thus hard to steal, but the other one will be a bit easier...options?

4) If the volume of these boxes are the same as my current box volume, will the sound be any differant because they are gonna be shaped weird? Just give me a straight answer here, thanks.

If anyone has any other pics of this from elsewhere, or any tips, feel free to share, If I actually pull this off I will document it as best I can to help others out.

I have a few other questions I would really like answered so please help.

5) When a manufactur says "use this box volume with this sub" does that mean the actual volume of the box, or the volume of the box with the sub inside it?

6) would it be a good idea to go ahead and mount the amp inside the left panel where the jack and all that is? it looks like there is just some thin metal back there that I can punch through and screw it to, and I would need to do that anyway to install the stealthbox later, so would that work out ok? I have seen a lot of people mount amps back there

7) the JL site says mounting a stealthbox on the left side requires permanent modification, any idea as to what kind?

no, but you need to start consolidating some of these threads. you've started like 200 this week.

LOL, you beat me to it.

anyone?

sorry about the threads, just trying to get my questions answered......

as far as amp goes, i would like to mount it behind the trim, but it doesn't look like there is room, and there does not seem to be anywhere to screw it in...w/o the screw going through the outside metal

i am thinking about screwing it to the back of one of the seats, because that way the seats could still lay down, and i could still put stuff on at least one side (i would put it under the seat but it won't fit)

help please, ty

1. The work involved is what you make of it. If you've never taken a panel out before, I'd assume you'd hit some rough points along your way. I give it 10 minutes safely to get out, simply because it's the entire rear quarter panel. Your expierence will answer this one.

2. Haven't seen it done.

3. I wouldn't worry personally. Just some L-brackets would work.

4. No, just make sure you give the magnet enough rough and it's built to spec.

5. Volume of box standalone.

6. Sure, make sure you have cooling though.

7. No idea.

come on dudes

mainly, if it helps, i am looking for some advice on mounting the amp behind the left trim in the trunk. It looks like I can stick the amp on a 1/2 inch piece of wood with some holes in it and stuff, and drill the wood into the metal where the electrical box is now under that panel. I would have to move the box though, thoughts?

as far as the stealthbox goes, would it be a good idea to stick a piece of metal along the curve where the wheel box is, i am gonna have to build it like the guy i showed above did with sections of wood making up the curve. It should be air tight when i seal it, but would metal make it more secure?
