Steering wheel audio control

Anyone know if 2008 steering wheel with controls will fit 2006 EB?

I think so it will work . I have ordered 2008 explorer steering audio controls for my 2006 explorer. I will update you in 1 week.

Solved The Steering Wheel Control

I wanted to let you know that I figured out how to use the steering wheel controls to work with a chinese cheap 2 din radio. For my car stereo there were two wires coming off the steering column and all I needed to do was use Key 1 and the wire labeled "ground". In my case I did not need to use the second Key 2 wire.
The chinese radio did not give much information on the wires that needed to be connected and some other sites provided information that did not work. What i found was a source for wire diagrams that very valuable, which got me to the right wires in my case pins 18 & 19
My vehicle is a 2007 Ford Explorer XLT

Great work Box! Without this write-up I wouldn't have been able to do this mod. The WPT-699 has been changed to WPT-1219. The Ford number is 3U2z-14S411-DAAC. The audio control switch is SW-6292 or 6L2Z-9C888-GAA. This one has only the temp button on the bottom. It was the switch shown in my 2007 Sport trac manual so that's what I went with. The clock spring connector that the audio and cruise cables plug into dictate the options available.

I had to clip a tiny piece of plastic from the switch so that the WPT-1219 would slide in and lock.

I got the switch on Amazon for $58. The pigtail WPT-1219 came from Ford $43.

The pigtail connector used on the cruise and audio switches are the same. The pins used are different. You might be able to find a less expensive used cruise control switch cable. There's one currently on eBay.

I followed DAPO2008's excellent instructions regarding the airbag removal. I didn't have to disconnect the airbag from the cables.

I'm going to use a Kenwood DDX9903s and a Meastro RR. I'll try to post an update when I get everything functional.

Ok. Does anyone have the harness part number? I'm at the Ford dealer parts counter and some of the part numbers in these post work but the harness part is elusive.

There is no part number for the harness. It comes with the steering wheel. That is why you have to make one from the Ford pigtail/connector or buy a used steering wheel with audio controls.

Nice write-up, very helpful!! I actually did finish the swap in my '07 XLT *without* cutting and splicing, soldering, and using anything but plug and play factory connectors. I simply acquired the entire steering wheel with harness and OEM radio from an '08 explorer that came with the steering wheel controls, removed the airbag, plugged in the harness and installed the radio and they work flawlessly.

So guys, it can be done quite easily! The parts are easy to find on eBay and very cheap, I found the steering wheel without air bag for about $20 and the radio WITH the chrome knobs (which we know the '07 doesn't have) for about $70. It doesn't matter what color steering wheel you find anyway because you are only using the harness, and the chrome knobs look a lot better too. All in all a very easy and inexpensive upgrade that is just plug and play.
Hi everyone!

I know this is an old thread but maybe, like me this weekend, someone was looking on how to do this. I've did just as @rgbarbato and it worked perfectly and without any complication. Here in PR I've found a Junkyard that sold me the harness and both left and right controls for $20 that they pulled out of a crashed 2008 XLT police patrol. I just replaced the harness and the buttons. The radio, is the Navigation one, without being programmed for my 2007 Explorer XLT (Ironman Edition) that I bought on eBay a few years ago for like $100 or so. BTW I've never seen these wheel control buttons lite up. I didn't even knew that the could. Looks very nice at night. Next step will be to install a Ousmin A8 Pro which also support wheel radio controls. That will be CarPlay and Android Auto both wired and wireless. If anyone is interested in that NAV System or the Original one, just let me know.

Thanks for all the great advise and the help that I've received here.

Thanks!

And if anyone is up to the splicing and soldering cause you are unable to get the harness and would like to use the one that I’ve just removed, just let me know and I’ll just send it to whom ever needs it. Otherwise, it will just go to waste. Also have the Cruise Control set of buttons (the ones on the left of the Steering Wheel).
