i'm about to buy me a Pioneer P800BT deck and i wanted to be able to control my deck with controls on my steering wheel.

anyone know if its possible to just buy the buttons and put it in? or would i have to buy the whole steering wheel? also where to get it at a good price!

You would likely need the controls and a new clockspring. The newer vehicles ('06 up) may use a common clockspring if you have any controls (ie. cruise control) since they now use a CAN bus for messaging instead of discreet wires for each function. You'll also need the PAC SWI-PS to convert the steering wheel signals into an input the deck can use.

Like Steve said, all you should need is the PAC SWI-PS. I had to use the PAC to retain my steering wheel controls when I installed a Pioneer AVIC Navi unit into my old 03 Explorer. The PAC can be a little difficult to set-up, but once programmed worked flawlessly. Good luck with your radio, it should look great. If you need further info, goto AVIC411.com, great site to get Pioneer Navi installation help. Lots of photos and it will also show you how to ground the parking brake cable if you're looking for that.

I never thought about that if I put in an aftermarket head unit I will loose my steering wheel controls. The volume is the only one I care about, is there anyway to make it work just on a regular cd player?

It has to have a wired remote input to get it to work with the PAC adapter.

The media buttons are indeed on the right side.

where can i buy the media controls! i want them so badly!!

As per my 2008 ford wiring diagram, both the cruise and audio are switch number 151-16 and come in the same replacement kit. That is why I gave you the part number. If you dont believe me and you have a 2008 Explorer, go down to Ford and ask them to pull the switch off of page 130-5 in the Ford Wiring Diagram Manual and see what replacement part they come back with. Also make sure you have the Audio control module (ACM) 151-14 as well as the clockspring in the column or the buttons will not talk to the CAN.

ooo icic. i have a 2007 ford explorer. thanks for the info merchjo. i thought the link you sent was just for the cruise control

2007 should be the same parts. I would go to ford just to verify before spending a 100 on switches that you might not be able to use. I can scan the page if you want, let me know.

my car is currently at a local ford dealership to get a couple things done. i'll goahead and take down the product number and will ask ford parts department when i can.

i'm just curious. since i dont have a car, how would i go about to removing the stock ones on my steering wheel and installing/where do i wire the new one to?

thanks bud! you been a GREAT HELP!

btw what is this clockspring you speak of? thanks bro!

The clockspring I assume is the connector between the steering wheel and the steering column that allows the wheel to turn but keeps connection to the main harness of the truck.

Send me your email and I scan the 2 pages for you so you have the drawings when you talk to ford.
