I have a 2000 ranger and I'm wondering if my cruise control buttons are supposed to light up? I've put 2 new sets of switches in it and nether have lit up.
I'm not familiar with an '00 Ranger, do they have bulbs in them and is there power getting to them?
It would go through the clock spring, maybe check for power into and out of that? Not sure if the wire colors are the same but the diagram I have for 2nd gen Explorers shows clockspring power input is a red/black wire and output to ground is a black/white wire, so you could check for continuity to power and ground on those wires and also check between those wires and the bulb socket itself.
Note I am assuming your cruise control switches are on the steering wheel.
