How do you take the fuel filter off a 99 XLT 4.0L ? It has these socket looking things on both ends that seem to lock the fuel filter. All help is greatly appreciated.

They come off with a $5.00 tool from any auto parts store.

You first have to remove the safety clips, then push the special tool into the fuel line to release the spring locks, then the lines just pull off.

Ah ha... What's the name of the tool? I'm currently on an island where only Napa exists. Thanks

I know this will sound a bit odd, but they're called "Ford Fuel Line and A/C line removal tools"

There are a few different versions, there's a metal one that won't get in tight areas, is akward to use, but won't break.

There are also some plastic ones that are a bit smaller in overall size so they can go in places the metal ones can't, they're a bit easier to use, but they can break (really only happens in the cold)

Either way, you shouldn't spend more than 10.00 on a set
