Problem: Driver side window rolls down, using the rear door switch, but won't roll up. Master window switch does NOTHING! Want to clean master switch, or replace, if necessary, but I'm NOT mechanically skilled in the LEAST!

Searched for hours, but no luck finding a How To video for a stock 2001 Explorer. Also, no luck finding How To video for a 2001 for getting access to check the wiring where it runs thru driver's door, if the problem isn't the master switch. Links for How To videos for this motor head challenged dude would be MOST appreciated & likely save me serious $'s at a time when I've been, unexpectedly, bleeding green I can ill afford.

problems like this are usually caused by broken wires in the driver's door wire bundle. the easiest way to find and correct the problem is by removing the door, which sounds difficult, but isn't. one bolt on top of bundle housing and 4 hinge bolts. it helps to have 2 people to manage the door. then peel back the rubber boot and check all the wires carefully. i'm not aware of any video's on this subject. Google it.

1Aauto has lots of good Explorer videos on YouTube.

Thanks. Great site! Didn't find exactly what I needed, but did learn how to remove the door panel, which gives me access to the master switch. Hopefully, I can figure out next steps from there.

Thanks. Gonna try seeing what I can accomplish with the switch first. Then check wiring, if switch work doesn't fix it. Wish me luck, as I know just enough to be SCARY in trying to pretend I'm an auto mechanic! :salute:

I doubt the switch is your problem, but feel free to check it. you'll have to remove the interior door panel to get to the switches. Tip: there's one plastic hook on the back of the door panel, up near the mirror. try not to break it. you must lift upwards to disengage it.

frankly, it may harder to remove the interior panel, if you've never done one, than to remove the door.

Good advice, which I'm going to take, as I've sure as heck busted plastic fasteners on other vehicles when I've had some reason to remove door panels. Thanks again.
