My stock 6 CD changer ('96 Explorer) has a couple of problems. I thought someone may have had the same problem and before I start to pull things apart any more, I thought I'd check with you guys.

1st, the cartridge, with 6 CD's in it won't eject. When I press the eject button there is a cycling noise but the unit won't lift up. I can't lift it out any other way either and I don't want to force it.

Second, when I press the CD button on the dash I get a "No CD" notice.

Do I have to remove the whole unit?

Once it's removed, how can I get the cartridge out?

I'm pretty sure the two problems are related. It was working fine then all of a sudden, blooie!

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Don P.

Mine did that a few times before I removed it. Seems the unit would get too hot and not work properly. If I let the unit cool for a few hours, it worked again. I would eject the cartridge, replace it, and everything would be fine. Has this only happened once, or does it still not work after leaving it alone for a bit?

Thanks, but that's not the problem.

Nope, it's been sitting for two weeks and it still doesn't eject or play the CD's stuck in the cartridge. I've tried moving the cartridge every which way while I push the eject and a half dozen other things. I even tried to lift it out while pushing with a small lever but it is indeed jammed in there for some reason.

Sitting in Chicago in mid winter, I wish overheating was the problem!

Thanks anyway though.

I had the same problem as well. I took it to a radio shop and they did something to it, it was a minor fix as they told me. It seems to be a reoccuring theme for all the changers.

Mine did that too... I took it to Ford and it turned out that a dime had fallen into the CD changer and jammed it. Do you leave the door to the changer open???? BIG MISTAKE! Do you actually use the change holder for change?? ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE. One pothole and it's all over....

They had to take apart the unit to get it out, but it has worked fine ever since! That little boo boo cost me $100!

Needless to say, I make sure I close that door and never ever use the coin holder ever again!!!

Ford said this happens all the time, because of that coin holder.

Hope this helps!

cd changers suck

in my 97 E.B. the cd changer would say no cd and wouldnt eject and i just took it out because when i got it looked at by a sound guy they said ford changers are crap. so i just put in a new panasonic head unit

do you guys know how to take the cd changer out of the center counsol? Because someone completely demolished it and so it just sits there taking up counsol space....maybe a link to a how to thread on it?

hey, I had 6 stacker in my car before took the headunit out and put a touchscreen in.

quick question. where exactly is the cd changer cartridge thing?
would that be where my factory amp and **** is aswell?

no the factory amp is behind the head unit i would leave it in and get an alpine digital amp to go with it

You would think that all the problems that we have had with our cd players... Because mine is not working eather) that therewould have been a recall for that issue... Has anyone heard?
