I have a 93 with a 3inch body lift, and shackles in the back (So roughly 5 inches in the back). I have the 4.0 V6. I am currently running 31 x 10.5 tires and would like to jump to a 33 X 11.5 or wider.

My question is ... Can I keep everything else stock? ie gears, tranny etc. I do not use the truck off road. It is my wife's daily driver. It is more of a truck to impress my 5 year old's friends than to climb hills. I just really love Explorers, and I would like it to have that aggressive 4x4 look.

do u know what the stock gears right now are...? if not u can check the sticker inside the door for the axle code or even the tag on the rear differential. post it here or search for what numbers equal what gear ratio.

My axle code is 41.

Just did a search. I have 3.27 non limited slip. Do you think I need an upgrade. Or with what I use the truck for, should I be O.K. for now?

3.27's and 33's will make you cry. hell my friend had 31's and 3.27's and when i drove it i told him it was dog slow. your city gas mileage will also suck. I would def go to a better ratio

What would be a better ratio... and what are we talking about in terms of cost to switch?

4.10's would work good. 4.56's would be even better. but since u don't really plan to offroad it 4.10's would be more than sufficient and will probably get u a lil better gas mileage than the 4.56's. not exactly sure on cost but a grand to get it done might be very likely. but being geared correctly will put less stress on your transmission so it will last longer and a new transmission costs more than the gear swap would. sooo...

Yeah 4.10's would probably be best. Keep your eyes open in the for sale section as often people here are selling whole pigs with gears in them already for the front. The rear you will probably have to get set up.

I run 33's with 3.73's and it moves, but I sure will not win any drag races  Kicks out of OD on hills.

i ran 32"s on 3.27's for a while until i got around to swapping into 4.56...

that thing was slower then a chevette with the 3.27's...

with the 4.56 im more happier then ever, it moves like it should.

Thanks everyone. I think I might just stick with my 31's till I can afford a gear swap. It still looks pretty kickin with the set up I have. And my kids can still climb up into the seats.

I have 31s and the axle code 41 (3.27s with no LS).
My city gas mileage SUCKS!
4.10s are the next mod. I'm trying to find a whole assembly since I don't wanna pay $400 for someone to install gears. I'll install an Aussie locker or something like that too.
Karl

Yeah I LOVED my truck when i had 31's and 4.10's great driving. Now I am on 35's and soon will install my 5.13's. Will jump off the line but kinda suck on the highway. but thats what my 3kgt is for anyway

I have 3.27's also. & just put on 31's. I haven't really noticed much of a difference. I do have intake, exhaust, 66mm TB, & 70mm MAS so that may offset it. Gas mileage I haven't keep track of since have 2 cars & alternate driving them, so I don't keep track.

I had 3.27 with 32's and it was a dog. I have since gone to 4.10 and it's mucho better
when I go solid, I'll go 4.88
