Has anyone taken off the stock hitch and installed a new class 3 one? I just installed mine and I took off the old one..I am not sure if I was suppose to.

The two aftermarket 2" hitches that I have seen were to be mounted underneath the 1 1/4" hitch, so you would still have two hitches.

I mounted the original back on..now the bumper has some structual integrity.

can you replace the 1 1/4 hitch with a factory 2 inch?

was wondering the same thing. having two hitches would be lame, well to me at least. my dad is buying a boat and needs to put a class 3 on his. are the oem class 3 worth a dang?

Yes this can be done. There are at least a few people here who have done this.

The two local Ford dealers would rather send the Explorer to a welding company and have them cut out the 1 1/4" section and replace it with a 2" section and add bracing. The cost for this is $275.

There has to be a 2" OEM hitch, but the local dealers don't want to go that route.

Can someone take a picture of the 1 1/4" mount and the 2" mount directly below it, I'd love to see it.

I don't know if I want to go that route or pay the extra money to only have the 2" hitch.

Thanks,
Matt

after 2 minutes of looking online, I found this:

It doesn't list a seperate option for the class 3 hitch, but the class two is 130 bucks, so the class 3 can't be much more from the dealer.

The link from VP said it was $300. But the link doesn't seem to be working now.
