Thinking about doing a Straight axle swap on my 96 Explorer. Was going to look into getting one from a Ranger maybe. Might look into other options. Wanting to lift my truck a few inches I know i can get two from the torsion bar, and flipping and changing the blocks in the rear. However any insight would be great.

Rebel's right. It takes a while to get through it but there is a TON of helpful info there. I would suggest going at least with a dana 44 because its the same strength if not stronger than the ford 8.8. That way you arent still limited by the front axle.

Welcome to the forum. We all start in the thread mentioned above. Lots of great information to dig through...and I mean lots. You will have to do homework, though. There's no way anybody will be able to give you a post answering all your questions. Good luck. Hope to see another solid axle RBV on here.

BTW, which Ranger solid axle were you thinking of using?

thanks, i started looking threw that forum last night. Days worth of info.

The only straight axles the Ranger ever had was the 7.5 and the 8.8. They were both rear axle.

I don't think there are any rangers that came with solid axles in the front
