EDIT WITH BETTER SYMPTOM DESCRIPTIONS
Hi everyone; my 1993 Ex 4wd does this thing where the motor seems to knock. Kind of like one cylinder is not firing, or one cylinder is firing "too much", if there can be such a thing... Only when under load - stopped in 'drive', starting to move, or at 40 mph if I floor it so RPMs go to 3000. When floring it, it almost sounds like its backfiring.
I first thought I had some transmission problem and so posted here

However, it does not seem like the 'jerking' is coming from the transmission. The transmission mount is solid, and I watched underneath while wife revved the motor up a little (in drive, with both brakes applied), and the tranny is not vibrating.
Right before this started happening, I replaced the upper and lower intake gaskets... the thing was using more oil than gasoline.
Did the seafoam decarboning thing.
Nothing obviously loose underneath.
When just idling in park, she soulds REALLY good. Put it in drive - and it begins, "pop, pop, ..., ..., pop-pop, ... ... ..."
If I had to guess where it is coming from, it seems that it is towards the passenger side, front of the engine. Like its coming from the alternator or somewhere below or behind the alternator... I know its not coming from the alt itself because I tried running it without the belt for a short while, and the problem was still there.
