Well, my 2000 EB is showing a little age, clearcoat worn down, noisier inside, needs new windshield (thanks gravel truck!) so even though it doesn't use a drop of oil and the transmission is still excellent, I went for a shiny newer one yesterday.
New for me is 2003 EB with hi kms but beautifully clean, not a chip in the paint, not a mark in the interior at 242,000 Kilometres. (Canadian eh!)It has the 4L engine, 5R55S transmission. Came with good current emissions test. Seller said the front bearings have been done, the transmission oil was a little dirty and a little (very little) scorchy smelling. Engine oil was fairly clean, he said it needs a change though. Brand new Firestone all-season radials. He did say it needs to be aligned.
Figured we'd do a transmission oil change and filter replacement, as well as oil change, during the certification. On the way home (4 hr drive) it scared the heck out of me. At 80 km/h it suddenly gave a sideways shimmy and I was afraid it was going to go into the oncoming lane. Slowed down to 60 and it went along ok for another 100 k then did it again.
Because it is new to me, also because it is spring pothole season here, I was being fairly careful to avoid any rough roads and broken edges on the roads, so was pretty certain it did not do this weird little sashay because of the road. And the transmission felt excellent, smooth clean changes, lots of power even going slowly up hills no sudden jerks in shifting up or down.
Anyone familiar with this little boogie step in their 03? Will hopefully have more info Monday when it is up for its safety, but would appreciate making sure the mechanic looks carefully at any suspects. TIA
