Whelp, the drama continues. Now I’m towing with the idea of hacking up the carrier and getting a locker…

What about getting new carrier from the junkyard

That idea has been tossed around. I need to see if they have any near me
Just remember to reuse your old ring gear so that the gears mesh correctly

I didn’t have luck locally. I have managed to locate replacements online but I am doing a final Hail Mary pass this weekend. I ordered the special tool and if it doesn’t work, I’ll go medieval on the carrier lol

What are you looking for specifically that you aren't finding locally?
The bakersfield LKQ as of 8 days ago has an interesting 4x4 in stock. Looks like a a4ld & manual transfer

That did not pull up on mine. Guess I plans tomorrow morning lol

Whelp, I decided that since the carrier hates me and has to be destroyed/replaced any how that I'd regear. I got a used carrier with 4.10 gears on the way and to be honest I am kind of intimidated on doing the swap. First thing to do is pull the axle I suppose. Thankfully I have this site to help guide me through it all!

You are pulling the whole beam out or just swapping the diff?
It’s almost easier to just drop the entire ttb out from under the truck and then redo the differential all u joints wheel bearings brakes etc

Don’t be intimidated! The ttb is pretty easy to work on and cheap!

It all started out with Leaky axle seal in the 8.8. Stupid retaining pin bolt snapped and now I’m preparing to cut the carrier (after exhausting all efforts including special tool) so I can replace the bearings and seals. New to me carrier will be going in with 4.10 gears hopefully in the near future
