Stupid question

I've been reading that people change their gears or gearing to allow them to put on bigger tires, does this apply to 2wd or 4wd trucks..
I'm only worried because I'm planning on putting on 33"s and don't want to find out after that my truck is useless..

Looking at the tire gear ratio charts, it looks like I'm going to get better fuel economy..?

You've given me some stuff to think about now. How do I change the gear ratios? I don't know really anything about drivelines.
