ok my Neighbors system keeps shutting of on him and im talking from the radio all the way back to the amp. we checked all the wiring, we redid the ground because it wasnt making good enough contact at first but now it has a good solid contact with the chassis. we also checked the other wiring but cant seem to find anything wrong.

so myquestion is what can cause this and is there any possible ****ion?

hes running a crunch 1000.1 amp with two subs hooked up wired to 1 ohm.

Hey Trebor! Not that I have an answer, but is there a specific point at which the system shuts off, high volume, etc? What type of radio, speakers? Thanks!

ah forgot to mention that it only happens when he turns the radio up to say 28. it doesnthappen at low volumes just when he turns it up. he has a sony head unit...i had it in my truck before i gave it to him and it never gave me any problems. i dont know what type of speakers he has but i know there not factory because when u open the door and the sun hits where the speakers are u can tell the cone is blue, he brought the truck with them.

im still stumped as to what can be causing this cause he said it just happened out of the blue and now its happening more often.

If the head unit is shutting down it is probably due to low voltage. Check the voltage going in the HU when playing it at high volume. If the sub/amp combo is not properly wired it could cause excessive current draw.

well everything checked out ok. any other ideas guys?

I still think a wiring problem. How the connection at the battery? Does anything else shut off with the radio, like the power windows etc. If it was just the the amp, I would think it was going into protect mode. How long before the radio comes back on? Or do you have to turn the truck off?

Does the deck cut off at high volumes with the amp off? Try running the amp at 2 ohms, a 1 ohm load is really making the amp work hard. The higher the ohm load the more stable the amp is. Also try connecting a wire from the 12v terminal to the remote turn on to help eliminate that the amp is drawing too much current from the remote wire coming from the head unit.

the radio and amp cuts off at high volumes....obviously the amp will turn off if the radio does. also the amp is 1 ohm stable, and we never had a problem up until weinstalled everything in his ford expedition. tried the wire from the positive to remote turn on and still the head unit shuts off at high volumes. im really baffled cause in all the systems i have installed i never had this problem.
like i said before i even used my brand new kenwood deck and it still did the same thing.

only the radio shuts off, no lose of power anywhere else.battery connection is solid

Can you try the amp in another car or try another amp in the Expedition?

Try pulling out the deck and powering it from another source.

Also take the ohm/resistance readings from the subs at the amp and then take each individual sub if it doesn't look right. It is probably reading around .75 or .8 ohms. Maybe one of the subs are getting hot and causing the amp to kill the system.

It is definately sounding like the amp is the problem. Can you try the amp in another car or try another amp in the Expedition?

we had the amp in his grand marquis, all we did was hook it up in the expedition. the same way we had it setup in the marquis is the same way i set it up in his expedition

The amp might be taking to much power from its electrical system or the radio wiring is bad, try to hook up the radio direct from the battery and try to run the system this way to see if the radio shuts.

well i as it turned out my friend said the radio startedto only cut off when he came to a stop. so i pulled the radio and instantly i saw what the problem was. one of the wires got pinched and came out of the wiring harness andim guessing it only moved when he stoped which is why it kept turning off. also at higher volumes the bass hit harder so yeah.

i rewired everything and even installed a new wiring harness and all is well now. i went to the extreme this time soldering all the wires and using heat shrink tubing on them instead of crimp connectors. since then he hasnt had a problem with the radio turningof or anything.

thanks for you guys suggestions and help
