Subwoofer in mach system...no sound...audio n00b

Guys,

We've had our 98 EX for about 4 months now. The weather is decent enough for me to go out and tinker around now, and since the subwoofer has never worked since we've had it, I figured I'd take a look.

The subwoofer is there, but wasn't connected to anything, and there was a white wire and a black one, neither connected. I connected them but still nothing.

Can you guys point me in the direction of what a n00b can do to check before I bring in someone that knows audio? Things like where the amp is, what I can check on the amp, other things to test/check, etc...

The amp should be attached to the subwoofer enclosure, forward of the subwoofer itself. The 4 channel amp should be on the wheel well, or another loaction close to the sub assembly, on the right side of the vehicle, behind the trim apnel in the cargo area. But this is really dependant on the model of headunit you have. In 1998 Ford went to an amp in the HU to save $$. If it is the dual media unit, the amp is internal to the HU, and there would be two sets of wires going to the sub enclosure, one set of two wires for power and ground, and three that carry the audio signal, with a black common.

The wires going in should be:

LG/P - Light Green/Pink is hot at all times in
BL/LG - Black/Light Green - Ground

and

BR/O - Bright Red/Orange - signal input
R/BK - Red/Black - signal input
DG/P - Dark Green/Pink - signal input
Black - common

coimng out should be...

BK/W - Black / White goes to the sub
BK/LG - Black/Light Green goes to the sub
(you can remove the sub from the enclosure to see which is neg and which is pos, they are typically different size tabs, and most are marked + -)

I might be able to come up with a diagram if you need it. Just let me know.
