went threw a mud hole and was deeper than i thought spuddered on my way out and died got her fired back up after a few cranks ran really really rough and smoky then died again after i few times of it doing that it ran slightly rough and i drove it home it seemed to buck quiet a bit but it was driving normal and had normal power. got it home dried the air filter, and the airbox, still seems to die here and there if i stop in gear. also as a very slight tick to it that speeds up with rpm but its hardly noticable unless you listen for it.. any ideas on what that is?? also no water in fluids (i checked) any ideas what damage i may have done to it? anyhting else i should to to her? think i broke anything?? the airfilter was soaked with water but it still ran... never lost oil psi or anything and no engine lights are on. other than a TON of white smoke and running really really rough for a few min. seems fine now still spudders a little bit if i punch it from a dead stop at an idle... any ideas why??

thanks for the help

...Everything is still wet...:D

...Do a search on here for "Hydrolocked"....Other people have gone thru water and have discussed these possibilities on here...You might find some very useful info from those that were going thru the same problem, at the time it had happened for them...;)

yea i looked at all those... just wanted to make sure i didnt have a weird case or something lol. being a college student and a volly firefighter my truck needs to run lol. but it seems to run a little weird.... will that go away with drive time and drying out over night??

...Letting it dry out and not running it at all would be the best...Otherwise, you can create new shorts in the electrical to start with...:(

...The other thing, you may have done some internal damage...I'm not saying this is the case but, water don't compress but pistons and rods do...

Happened to my brothers dakota one time, it ran funny and jumpy for a couple days, then it was totally normal after that....

Theres probably not much you can do, other than check the distributor/coil, wires and spark plugs, MAF and Air filter.

I mean you could do a new head gasket if you really want to check out the cylinders/pistons.....however coolant will dump right ontop of the pistons when you yank off the cylinder heads anyways....so you probably wont notice any water on top of the pistons even if there was some present.

Same here, I've done it multiple times... total power loss, certain systems shutting down one by one until the engine kills itself. Fire it back up, after cranking slowly n whatnot... My engine is fine though, I've always got it to fire... I think the water just gets on everything.. and the computer freaks out.. starts shutting things down... you probably have water in your pulley bearings, take out your wires and blow em out... clean everything up.. change fluids anyways... you should be good. I'm not saying you didn't damage anything... but do a general tune-up and go from there.

well seems fine now tossed a new filter in and i don't notice any difference and cant notice the tick unless im stopped with my door open.
thanks guys=)
learned a bit of haha dont take your DD threw a mud hole unless you know the depth (it didnt look deep)

Don't dismiss it just yet... try and figure out that tick... ticks are never good. Glad you got it running smoothly though.

i hydrolocked my 00 back in october. 6000 miles and 4 months later it broke a rod. made a slight tick on start up other than that it was 100% til it all of a sudden started clanking and lost power. my suggestion would be to dump it before the same happens to you...

This is irrelivent kinda lol, but when i had a pit bike, not thinking, had it on a trailer, uncle went to wash his truck, so i sprayed the bike off too, sprayed right on the air filter...a CAI, barely got it to start up, idled HORRIBLE, and would get going like maybe 8-9 mph then just like sputter and chug.

Let it sit for a few days, took the filter off too, and wiped the intake clean/dry, and used a hair dryer on the filter so it would be dry, the next day it was all good.

I did that with just a damn puddle at a corner store, after it rained, and that damn puddle happened to be almost a 1 foot deep pothole!

hahaha yeah, my uncle did that, in his f250 there was this like idk foreclosed or something gas station, was brand new, and HUGE, then just like got abandoned, and he drove around the back, it was all covered with water, from raining all day..well a few days, not too hard, and from about 5' into the water, it was up to the bottom of the doors i was like :0

(nothing happened) just a new gas station, with like 3' of water in the pking lot lol wtf!
