My 2001 XLT V-6 4.0 SOHC with 149,000 miles has its Check Gas Cap light on and has thrown a P0457 code turning on the CEL.

The fuel filler tube has some rust damage near the top. see link - I could not upload photos

Is this a part I can replace ?

Or repair with some sort of epoxy/JB Weld type of material ?

you can get a new replacement. try RockAuto. a new one will run you about $90.

Thanks for the link. How big of a project is this ?

So no way to just replace just the upper portion ?

Would a new gas cap be worth a try, or is the tube neck just too far gone for that ?

the filler tube and vent tube are all one piece. it is easy to replace. 2 screw clamps at the tank (behind the left rear tire) and a few screws at the filler cap. there's a youtube video on how to do it at 1aauto.

these filler tubes are prone to rust, so i don't know that just replacing the cap will help. from your pic, i don't think the cap is where it's leaking vacuum from. if you think yours is worn out, order one with with tube. you can buy 2 new screw clamps at any auto parts store or even Walmart. they're cheap.

i also see a replacement filler neck (Dorman) on Amazone for $78 with free shipping.
