I have a 97 explorer sport. I want to get something for the front end. I am leaning toward a bull bar over the full push bars. Any suggestions on products that wont break my bank?

I had one on my Mountaineer and hated it. It rust fast, and gives you less ground clearance & IMHO looks like crap on Explorers & Mountaineers

I ditched it two years ago and don't miss it at all.

That's the suggestions?? ^^ Good grief! If you want something for the front of your vehicle, check out the garages and see if you like anything. Also, the police issue nudge bars look great! There are websites that sell them - if you like them, go for it!

heres my 97. im a fan of the straight bars over the ones that have the push bars countour to the headlights. it was actually cheaper than the bull bars.

Yes that is a suggestion. I suggest he doesn't get one and saves his money for something else.

^^ That is a suggestion... But he actually needs a recommendation, so he posted in the modified section. You should have referred him to the stock section.

who makes this one posted above?

Agreed, some look nice in pictures but the reality is they aren't really all that functional aside from maybe holding some lights. I almost bought one used for $50 and even at that price I'm glad I didn't. This is what the OP should be considering if he wants a nice front end:

here's that bumper http://www.jeepbumpers.com/product_info.php/cPath/3590_2351/products_id/26412

Great thread on custom bumpers

One of my personal favorites...

And there you have it. Plenty of suggestions.

Also, no offense intended, but I see push/bull/whatever bars on mall-crawler trucks and little SUVs now, and wonder just how cool the driver thinks they really are with it. :bsnicker: More weight, less ground clearance, almost zero benefits? No thanks.

As far as not breaking the bank, if you don't need anything up there, don't spend the money. Get a locker or something useful.

^ Thats why I plan on building a front bumper to have a built in Skid plate with the "push" bar stileup in front of the grill and build it in to the bumper (Tubular) So I dont loose any ground clearence and hopefully save on weight a lil bit. Me and a friend are going to be building it here problubly in a few weeks as long as all goes well, as long as it does I will post pics as I go.

i plan on having 4 Offroad light mounts and 2 foglights built in so they are not to be smashed if offroading, also plan on having it more like a light weight Pre-runner style and not so much a push style, Just after accidently ripping off hte plastic on the underside of my bumper last week I want something that if i go into a steep ditch I can hit the bumper and not worry about ripping something off or smashing up my tranny coolant lines and so on. Thats why i plan on building my own.

Bull/Push/Nudge Bar

I currently have a 1997 explorer and I'm looking for a nudge bar, either police edition or one with the scrape bottom. Any suggestions need some please.

OK, I suggest you buy my WAAG center grille guard. it was supposed to fit my Sport Trac but doesn't. It's used and it didn't come with brackets but they're simple enough to make, and make stronger than the originals. This IS a WAAG, not a cheap imitation. PM me your email address for more photos.

I love how mine looks but yea it does start to rust up pretty fast.

Was wondering where you purchased your clear headlights. I'm looking for some. I already have clear corner lights I just need the clear headlights themselves.
