I haven't had the time to work on it I just moved into my new house, and we had a insane blizzard last weekend, so its going to be a while till I find the time to install it. But it will get done, all I need to do is mount the charger and hook up the belt.

I can respect and admire that some corporations are seeing the potential Of the SOHC.
Recently a gauntlet was laid down with myself and a few others in reguards to who(m) will hit 300RWHP With their Truck ( no v8's allowed was about the only real stipulation )
4grand is QUITE a price tag for whats being offered. An MP62? I feel this will eventually be a drawback.
I probably don't have the fastest SOHC Ranger, I know Doug is a little 'boost happy' himself. I'm a 'Bottle baby'.
For the cost, Feasability.. I'll stick with my bottles and refilling costs.. It will take quite some time before the maintenance costs equals half of that kit.
Sorry, I just don't buy it. If it was a twin screw type of blower or had some form of innercooling to help.. sure, It would sound like a reasonable item.
I had plans on putting an S/C M90 on my truck. I Actually have a lower manifold fabbed. As is with the prior pics posted of thre yellow and white pics Doug kindly presented to everyone.. Its quite apparent that ( contrare to popular belief ) an MP90/M90 fits quite nicely. With no support, it will be a tedious and long process.
Again, I'll stick with my bottle or fab up a Vortec/Paxon setup untill The price costs less then my first borns hospital bill.
whats the difference between the MP62 and the MP90? is it a size difference which means one produces more boost? don't you just adjust boost by the pullies?
if the MP90 is better and there's already been at least 2 rangers with them installed, how come the EE kit doesn't use them? can the EE kit be upgraded to a MP90?
im assuming there is no way to intercool a roots type S/C except for cali's proposition to have it divorced from the intake manifold, is this correct?
I've changed a few items around but its pretty much on par with my whole setup. I'm using an Em Tec3 management unit now and a different Jetting scheme. I will also be moving to better solonoids after this weekend ( another summit journey is planned ) as a recent gauntlet of '300rwhp' has been laid down.. I don't trust the current solonoids for THAT much power.
Basically the larger unit may produce less boost, but will flow more air than the 62 per pound of boost.
However, it's harder to package the 90 under the hood, and EE may also not use it because it probably produces more power than the stock drivetrain can handle reliably. I was very pleased with my 62.
BTW, you can't really use a smaller pulley with the 62 and the Explorer because at upper RPMs the blower is approaching it's max as it is.
thats interesting, so your saying the EE kit can't really be upgraded?
what are the weak links in the explorer and which is most likely to go first? what if you get new pistons/rods/crank and valvetrain stuff, are you saying you still have to worry about your trans/t-case/rear?
basically what im saying is, if im going to spend $4000 on the s/c kit, then i would like to know that sometime in the future, i could always upgrade. a.k.a. rebuild the SOHC with forged parts and whatever else you need to strengthen in the engine, and then use smaller pullies and some tuning to up the boost and hp.
but if your saying that the stock transmission can't handle that, then thats no good, because there doesn't seem to be any easy upgrades for the trannys. the only trannys that will fit without extreme modifications seem to be 5R55E, M5OD-R1 and M50D-R1HD (for 2nd gen's).
The tranny is definately the weakest link. After that, you risk detonation due to the higher SOHC compression ratio, and pistons wouldn't be a bad idea.
But you missed my point about the M62 and it's pulley. Roots-type blowers have a max RPM, and the 62s is around 14000. At redline of the SOHC or OHV, it's about there with the kit's stock pulley. A smaller pulley could blow the blower.
hey tone montana,
you have the SOHC with a manual trans? can i get some pictures of your interior? im also badly in need of the the part number for the trans wiring harness which i cant seem to find anywhere, maybe you can help me out.
