From what I've found the Superchip is the way to go with an Explorer anyway. I've heard too many negitive responses about other brands..

I too have HEARD many things, what I am asking is has anyone actually compared the various chips on the same truck under similar conditions?

Thanks...

I don't know if there where any magazines that did this but it would be nice to be able to perfom a test on the different chip makers and determine which one is the best. I know one of them did this for intake systems. I think it's on http://www.gr8ride.com
It can get quite expensive for an ordinary user to purchase all of them plus spend money on a dyno each time to test them out. I just went with the Superchip and I do feel a performance gain (SOTP). How much? I couldn't tell you, since I haven't had a before and after dynos perfromed. Overall, I'm happy though.

Gains?

Car-&-Driver or Road & Track (not sure which) did a comparison with chips, cars and trucks. The results were not impressive. The performance cars showed no gain in power or performance. The non-performance cars and trucks showed no HP gain but the Auto equiped vehicles were a little quicker in the 1/4 mile due to moved shift points. Which tells me, that the state-of-tune of factory engines is near optimum, but the shift points can be moved to increase performance. The question now is, is the extra $3 a tank (required Premium) for gas worth the performance gain?

With a Hypertech chip I noticed a better responce at WOT and under load, but thats it. I run mid-grade fuel with no problems. I can't say that $250 is worth it for any chip. Just my opionion.

I've been running regular unleaded 87 octane on mine since this winter with no problems. I might have to run 92 octane again once it starts warming up.
I read an article about octane ratings that explains why it's possible. I can find it if someone's interested.
