My wife noticed something strange about my 2003 st. not i notice it and it bothers me now. When coming to a stop it feels like the truck surging forward a little.

Its very hard to explain and it only happens sometimes and only right as the truck stops. Almost like there is something in the back of the truck that slides forward (there is nothing in the back) or like the tranz was engaged but just engaged.

Maybe the best way to describe it is when you put the truck in drive and the forward gear kicks in. you have your foot on the brake so the truck does not move but u feel something. Its that feeling but just as you stop, and only sometimes.

Anyone have any idea what I am talking about? Anyone have this? Or know if it is a problem?

this wasnt on my sport trac but I had a grand am that did that, ended up needing a new cat

chad551 can you elaborate on the

Valve body issue/shift solenoid

from my reading i thought only the 01s and 02s had the ship solenoid problem. Mine is an 03. also i thought the shift solenoid problem was with slipping.

the data i found on the valve body was a blown gasket or something. but i could not find anything about what the problem was just how to fix it

thanks matt

I had a 01 crown vic that did that. Valve body O ring was leaking slightly. Basically caused the tranny to hold second gear until right before you stopped and it would learch forward right before it finally went to first gear. IE kind of lugged the engine for a split second and gave the feeling of a learch. Valve body kit fixed it in my case.

will it cause problems if i do not get it fixed? the truck has almost 70K on it. I baught it at 65K and flushed the tranz fluid untill it was red again (it was black). I added a drain plug so i can drain the tranz pan and will change the 4qts in the pan every time i change the oil now.

I don't know on problems. Can't be good. If your fluid was that bad you might put some seafoam in it and run it for a few hundred miles then change the fluid again. You might just have a dirty valve sticking a bit and seafoam would clean it up.
