suttering while on the gas

ok so my truck is running hot, and i thought that was what was causing this problem, but its now doing it when the engine is not hot, like when I first start it up so it must be something else.

when i shift it into gear, it stutters/surges/dies, or wants to die, the rpms drop and the car wont go, only seems to happen if am changing gears or taking off aggressively, if I ease into doesnt happen as often. Im guessing something to do with the delivery of the fuel? fuel pump or filter?

Did the engine ever overheat, and did you fix whatever was causing it to run hot, or it just didn't run hot anymore and you didn't do anything? If it overheated there might have been damage to the engine and it's only apparent at higher RPM.

Sounds like it could be regular maintenance items, either bad spark plugs, ignition wires, coil pack, clogged fuel filter, dirty/clogged air filter, dirty fuel injectors, or even a clogged exhaust.

In addition to anime's concerns, if I suspected a problem with fuel delivery, I'd start by putting a fuel pressure gauge on it to see what the fuel system was doing.

thanks for the suggestion guys, it never overheated, it just ran hot, hit about the 75% mark sometimes. The problem seems to have gone away now that the crazy heat wave is gone.

im ganna go the route of spark plugs, wires, coil pack for now and see what happens.
