Hi, I upgraded my sync 3 to sync 4 screen and APIM. I have prowled the forums to see if I can find some changes in Forscan to make. However, I wasn’t able to have any luck. After running a VIN scan, I see that the APIM is from a Lincoln Navigator. I have made changes in Forscan and have some knowledge of using it, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im having the following issues with the swap;

  • HVAC fan speed is only controlled by the AUTO button and not by the knob on the screen.
  • Rear HVAC controls are non-functioning.
  • Volume is displayed at zero no matter what volume it is set to.
  • Fordpass is not working

Seems like a the few people have done this are on this thread trying to figure out all the kinks. All the kinks you mentioned are the exact ones they have too.

I found this article. I don't know how accurate it is. Perhaps they haven't considered the ingenuity of Sync 3 owners.

Yep. Ford doesn’t offer anything to upgrade, so they’re going to say it doesn’t work. Some company has just found a way to do it by replacing the main parts, and it has its kinks, but it kind of works.

Yeah, I know Ford is going to say no but as of now it it "somewhat" works.

AFAIK Sync 4 communicates on networks differently than Sync 3 which makes upgrading difficult. There is also a second Sync 4 gateway module that is needed in the car for proper network communication.

Yea I figured there were going to be some hiccups with communication n that.

I was able to get the screen to connect to wifi however it says there are no current updates to be done

I believe the no current updates message you received would have been for your original Sync 3 as that is what Ford has on file for your vehicle.
However, I could be mistaken.

I have Sync 4 in my F250, personally I think 3 is better.

Time when apps were better and better with every next version are long gone. Especially if a big corpo is their author.

I'm happy with my Samsung A9 Tab pinned onto air vent left to standard Explorer screen. Can do (almost) whatever I like and since we have old sweet buttons for A/C, heating, massages, volume control etc. I don't need to use touchscreen much. So why bother with another Sync?

I can watch videos while waiting for my wife, peek at forscan live data, use any navigation I like or let my wife watch movies. Also I can rotate it horizontally or vertically whenever I want :D

PS
Isn't it ridiculous that not a single car maker got an idea to let modders play with dashboards and infotainment display (after putting it in separate sandbox to keep things safe)? In times of unification many ppl would love to customize things.
