Synchros or clutch?

Something is going around!

I`m having similiar problems lately. I actually find that my friction point is moving around, so sometimes it feels like it is high up in the pedal travel and then it will be close to the floor. When it is close to the floor I can feel power to the rear wheels when I put it in gear, like the clutch is just slightly grabbing.
Also it hates to downshift into second unless I give the gas a push through nuetral to get the rpms around 2000.

Reverse grinds like heck. Someone here mentioned putting it in second and then over to reverse. That gets rid of the grind but THIS SUCKS!

I tried bleeding my clutch last night and hope it helps, those exhaust connection bolts look like they will be fun If I have to drop the tranny..

edit-

WOOHOO! the bleeding seems to have worked!

Well, I took your advice and had a transmission buddy of mine help me work on it. We, replaced the slave and master cylinder (he said people usually don't replace one without the other), the clutch (since we were down there), and resurfaced the flywheel. Scott, I know what you mean about bleeding the cylinder. We had to do that several times since it seems that master loves to hold air. After all that, the X shifts like a champ. I took a long three-hour drive today and got her nice and warmed up and had no problems whatsoever. It's an easy day and a half of work, but I hope this helps anyone with this problem.
Eclipse, you should check if your master cylinder reservoir is empty and check on the inside of your x above the pedals and under the carpet. It often leaks inside.

I'm glad my suffering could be of service! :frustrate

The level in the master cylinder is just fine. I looked at the master cylinder and there are no leaks inside/out.

I did notice something though. When I'm sitting at a light, and I push the clutch in, I can hear the input shaft/clutch spin down. It does it every time. The level in the trans is low, so I'll fill it soon...but I doubt thats the problem.

Did you replace the clutch when you rebuilt the trans? That clutch spinning was the same thing I had except mine didn't spin down. It kept going. By the day before I fixed, it had become impossible to shift from a stop. I had to turn off the car, shift into first, then start it up again in gear. I guess yours could be in the start stage of this problem. You may want to try bleeding that master cylinder.

The trans was rebuilt about 50k ago...before I bought the truck. It does spin down fine, and apparently my problem has to do with it not disengauging fully as quick as it should. I'm going to try to bleed the clutch, I really think thats my problem after reading various service manuals. I'll let everyone know what happens.

Jason

I bled it. It helped quite a bit. But I still have to wait at a stop to shift into first...I have to wait about 1-2 seconds now. Much better!

I have had an epiphany: hydraulic clutches suck!

they suck when they don't work right :D

It really wasn't that hard to bleed either. I just followed the service manual and it worked. Ah well...

Jason

oooooh...now your just being mean...cold and mean!

:( Man, I thought I had it fixed. Now I'm turning my attention to the tranny, starting with the linkage that was mentioned earlier. Can I get to it without taking the tranny out? What does it look like and what does it take to replace it?

I need some info here guys...

I have a manual trans. and every time I let off the gas and push the clutch in, I hear a clack clack. I can handle it, but its starting to piss me off because its like somethins loose inside the clutch or somethin. I don't know if its u-joints or what, but maybe y'all do.

Also, if I push the clutch in a little slower than normal, and ease the gas down instead of cutting it, the noise doesn't happen...any ideas??

Where is the clack clack sound coming from? I had the same sound from the clutch pedal area, and it turn out to be the starter interlock switch. If I pushed the pedal down slowly there was no sound. I just wiggled the switch a little, and have not had a problem since. On my truck if the clutch pedal is pushed to the floor, if often hits a bolt that sticks out of the floor, This also makes a sound, and gives a slight sensation on the clutch pedal.

FWIW, I bled my clutch, and cured all of my hard shifting into first and reverse. My problem was worse when the vehicle was hot as when it had been driven on the hwy for an hour. Lots of dirty fluid in there after seven years since tranny rebuild.
