OK, I'll try to remember everything I did, but we may need to update steps as we find out what does/doesn't work for others.
1) Register your mobile phone under "Account Settings"->"Phone Number Management" and make it the "Active" phone for Driver Services by clicking the "Active" button.
2) Turn on your Ex. Pair your phone and run a "Vehicle Health Report". Be sure it successfully transmits the report by dialing out on your phone. (You have to wait until your odo is at least 200 miles before you can run your first Health Report).
3) At this point, when I logged back in to syncmyride it still showed "Invalid VIN", but when I clicked on the "Validate Your VIN" button and then "download Sync Status Checker", it actually opened a Download Dialog and I was able to download the status checker to a USB stick.
[Up until now, whenever I clicked on "download Status Checker" I always got a "System Error".]
4) Take the USB stick to the car and run the Status Checker - using the detailed instructions found on the Ford site.
5) Take the USB stick back to your computer and upload the Status results - following Ford's instructions.
6) This seemed to help quite a bit. I could now see my SYNC version on the syncmyride site, but I would still see the "Invalid VIN" message most of the time when I would navigate around - occasionally it would go away, but mostly it was still there.
7) Log in to flmowner.com using your syncmyride.com account credentials. When I did this, it had me correct a couple of account settings - including my mobile number, not sure if that is important - and then it showed my "Health Report" and a bunch of other stuff from syncmyride. When I navigated over to syncmyride again, all of the "Invalid VIN" messages were gone.
I'm pretty sure that is everything I did. I didn't do Step 7 until a day after the other items, but I don't think the time delay helped anything.
I'll be interested if this works for others.
