i want to upgrade the sound of my system. ill tell you first what i have then what i think will upgrade it. tell me if its ok and worth it. i have a alpine cda-7893 head unit, in front doors i have pioneer 6x8 ts-a6880r they are 50 watts nominal power. rears are boston acoustic rx87 with continuos input power 40 watts. the head unit is running these speakers. and a seperate amp running the woofers. should i get a seperate amp for the door speakers? it sounds ok now but i think it would sound better if the head unit wasnt in control of both the woofers and the doors. if im thinking right about what size amp should i get and is there a ballpark cost of it. oh also what kind of amp? it really doesnt matter to me but i respect you guys opinion on a descent one. thanks for any info to help me out

rule of thumb for sub power is about 1.5-2 x the total RMS power of the system.

Sub, amp, and box for it are all important factors. If you go with TOO much power and bass you'll have to turn it down to enjoy your music because it will overpower your system. Annoying people in traffic is another thing :)

I would go with a 200w amp. I think for your application you'd only want to spend between $115-150 on it.

You could always go with a cheaper one, it just depends on what kind of sound (and how much of it) you want coming out.

Brand name really doesn't matter. Everyone grows partial to their own equipment, so you'll get a bunch of conflicting answers. Just go with a brand you personally feel comfortable buying.. It should be just fine.

from what Lucid kind of said-it depends how much power you are giving your subs. the power you give to your doors with an amp just has to be enough to enhance the sound, so depending on what kind of power you are giving your subs delegates the kind of power you give your doors, you can't just say "a 200 watt amp is good for the doors," because it could be too little (do you have 2 subs or one? how much power is each recieiving RMS?) or it could be too much (ie: one sub with a 150 watt amp to it)

i have 2 12inch subs they are 200w rms and my amp is 200w rms bridged 2ohms. please keep the info coming. my door speakers sound pretty good but im not completely satisfied, id like to get it better. thanks
