T/case upgrade

I have 2000 XLT and want to get rid of the c/v style front drive shaft. Does anyone know if there is a kit to replace that side of the front drive shaft and retro fit to a u joint on that side? I have searched and had trouble finding anything talking about it.

I dont think that is doable, but you could use a t/case and front shaft from a 95-96 explorer, they used a ujoint style shaft

they went with the ball-style cv joint due to NVH issues with a standard u-joint and even double-cardan style cv.

There is also a good kit to rebuild the CV shaft, from Dorman. Amazon carries it BTW, and it wasn't that bad to change.

If you want to rebuild it, yes there is a Dorman kit that lets you rebuild and keep the CV style end. The question was about replacing it with a ujoint, only way to do that is to swap cases. If it were me, I would go with a 1354 and double cardan shaft.

The Superlift shaft is a double cardan style shaft. If its is still available.

Isn't the problem also the mounting interface at the front output for the transfer case?

I have a manual transfer case from a Ranger in mine. It uses u-joints.

If you can find a shaft that's already the right length, you can get a new end yoke that bolts up to the 6-bolt cup.

top shaft was made by Rockford Driveline but the end yoke is available.

Thanks for all the info guys. I am also wondering if you know a good shift kit for this trans. Getting ready to service trans again and want to install a good shift kit but cant find any mention of a shift kit for 2000 xlt. did a search and did not find much.
