I've been doing some research and have been trying to figure out why it is needed to convert the mustang t5 transmission to hydrolic instead of cable. What are the pros and cons of keeping it cable as opposed to hydrolic.

Not clear. Are you putting a Mustang T-5 in an Explorer? Or are you talking about a T-5 in a Mustang?

T-5 in Explorer could only be done with a 5.0L engine. The 4.0L engines had clutch housing integral with standard transmission (M5OD), and used hydraulic clutch release.

i found a 1985 mustang 302 with t5 for a reasonable price and wanted to throw it in my 1993 2wd explorer

Does your '93 have a manual, or automatic transmission? imp

Hydraulic clutch is easier to push in and never needs to be adjusted. If the slave cylinder goes out you have to pull the transmission. You could leave the hydraulic master and have an external slave move the fork. If you look in the aerostar forum under the modified aerostars I posted pictures of my 4.0L van with a mustang T5 I swapped in. I had to go to a 4 inch drive shaft cause I'd snap anything smaller.
