Well I am going to put a 4" uperlift on pretty soon and I was wondering since the front driveshaft tends to cause issues, can I just remove it? This way the truck will only be rear wheel drive? or will this harm the transfer case? I have a Auto, 4HI, 4LO switch on the dash. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I left mine out for awhile when I installed my lift. So far no real harm.

How long is a while? Did you happen to drive it on the highway without the DS?

Hey Drew I admire your truck alot, but unfortunately prices on the lift are killing me right now. Paying for tuition and my truck is digging quite a hole in my pocket. I was wondering if you have any connections with superlift or trailmaster? I really want to get this lift and I have a decent chunk of spare change but I am not all about paying the $1400 for the lift. I just need to get the front lifted. I would appreciate any help.

Wish I could help. I don't have any real connections with anyone at Superlift or Trailmaster. I recieved my Trailmater kit for 600 to my door from a friends uncles shop. I just happend to find a great deal. So hopefully one will come around for you. If you don't have enough for the lift, think about it before you do finally purchase it. It's a heavy amount of cash, and you have to still buy tires/wheels, possibly gears, and then of coarse the d-shaft. Get a few buddies though and I bet you could save money on doing the lift yourself. Or heck, just do a 2" lift and slap some 32s or something on and call it a day. Just look at your options before forking out all that money to fork more out later to compensate for it.

Oh, and about how long I had it out -- well I put the lift on in August of '04. I've had it mostly out up to this day. But I do sometimes put a "temp shaft" in once in awhile until I get one that I really like and feel is going to be strong enough. So yeah, left mine out for a long time.

Superlift has shafts for you to get. Do the right thing and get the right DS. You said you have AUTO? You may have issues with that.

I put a trailmaster kit on an 01 sport like mine, it was an awful kit. That superlift kit has a better design for the front end. We we're able to get his stock shaft to stretch, but it wore out in a few weeks. He ended up getting one made that seemed to work ok, but I think it ended up cracking his front case months later. The angle on that shaft is just too much.

BTW, there is a bit of fabricating required to drop the front diff as well.

Drew,

I believe you have the same 4x4 switch as me, so if I leave it in Auto and take the driveshaft out that shouldnt be a problem? Correct?

if you guys are tight on money, you could just go for the 5.5" superlift, it costs much less caus it uses a SOA, rather than new leaf springs. I got mine for 750 shipped. Or, you could try and get just the front end of the 4" kit and do a SOA rear, odd are that with the stock springs that have setteled, it wil match up anyways, mine sits a little higher in the front. As for the driveshaft, you shouldnt have a problem, its fixed yoke, I believe so you dont have to worry about fluid running out. Just make sure your hubs are unlocked and you should be fine.
