TDS '08 Who's going?

I haven't been to Ocotillo and camped in a long time so I am not sure of a good place that will not bore us to death when we are not at the TDS vending area. The only places I know to wheel over there are in the state park. I guess we could do a Pinyon Mountain run for a day, but still, I don't know where to camp over there that will not be completely packed with ATV's and idiots. The place we used to camp when I was a kid was off of Split Mountain Rd, which is a little east of the main TDS area. We called it the "Trees" because there is a row of trees in front of an old plowed field. Its all fenced off now with "NO Tresspassing" signs all over.

I was thinking (never a good thing). We should have two Truckhaven 2008's this year, since some of the key people did not make it out. Rick & Char, Paul, Tom Rios, and Stic-O all need to show up for TDS so we can have Truckhaven 2008, Part II.

I am going to try a scouting mission for the Ocotillo area, south of SR-78. There are a few spots I have in mind and if time allows, I will run out there and check them out. I was going to stop and ask the rangers what they think about a few spots. No promises though. If I find a good spot, will we agree to use it? I don't want to waste my time. I guess if we camp over south of the 78, we can take a night run up Sand Canyon, then run the wrong way up the Diablo Dropoff. Nothing too hard, but very scenic.
Maybe a Pinyon Mountain run for one of the days? From the area I am thinking about, we could maybe hear a little of the festivities of TDS, and probably see them as well, but the main TDS area would be at least a few miles away.

Brian, I think we'll just have to chance it. It's hard to say one spot is better than another at TDS, I mean you can pull up to said spot and it's taken. We may need a plan B just in case. I like your ideas so far Brian, I've never checked out any of those areas before so i'm always up for something new.

Mounty71, it's only required to register if you want to go on a TDS run or participate in the raffle otherwise it's just like any other run except with 10,000 other people around. We usually check out the vendors area Sat morning then head out for a run or see if we can find the happening spots where people are thrashing on their rigs.

I'm planning to head out Friday afternoon. I think I'll just trailer out Friday morning to work, and then head to t-haven straight from there.

Heyyyy Bambi Killer, this is Dave with the grey Ranger. Nice to see you made it on the board What is your real name again...sorry, i'm terrible with names: I'm game for that trail, I've always wanted to run it.

Brother of Jefe, in the return from Truckhaven thread cybergasm posted the x-mas tree fire vid and it reminded me that that cobbler was cooked "well done" so you need to come out to TDS so we can have a rebate on that goodness:biggthump

Ron, I think we're trying to find a happy medium so that we're not too far from TH or TDS. As far as I know, i'm the only one in our group registered for TDS...I registered for the raffle and bought t-shirts. I made 3 trips to the vendors area last year from where we were camped and it was about a half hour drive one way from camp which was a little further up S22 from our last trip. Needless to say that got old quick so if we can set up camp somewhere in the middle that would be cool...k, i'm done complaining:
