I've searched some combination of "temperature, gauge, stuck," didn't come up with my problem. I have a 2000 Mountaineer AWD 5.0L with 53000 miles.
I just drained and flushed the coolant today. Put in a new thermostat. After filling the system back up, started the car, idled, drove around the block and let it come up to temp. Everything went fine. After shutting off the car, noticed the temp gauge is stuck where it had been. Now 4 hours later, it's still stuck there. I thought perhaps water had shorted one of the sensors and I just have to let it dry. But is there any other possibility?
I have to admit the thermostat flew out of the housing when I pulled it off, so I didn't know how it went on. I put it on the direction which felt more secure, which is the spring side towards the radiator.
Thanks.
