Tempature guage question

My little red Ranger has a Temp gauge but it doesn't seem to work. Can I get anyone's opinion, what are the chances that the gauge its self, doesn't work ,or, would it possibly be something else is amiss? Thanks for your help.

Welcome to this forum! Disconnect the wire on the top of the sending unit, and ground it. The gauge should swing all of the way over to the hot zone. If it doesn't, then the gauge or wiring is bad. The sending unit is about $7.
